Thanks, however nearly all of it looked encrypted.
What I was looking for in the actual SS stuff. Basicly something that shows the SLP didn't just walk up to a couple totally finished Z28's and say we'll do these one.

In '96 and '97, SLP upfitted a Z28, but it had to have particular RPO codes specifying it was to be converted to an SS. I don't have those codes with me right now (they're at home, and I'm at the shop).
In '98, all SS's still went to SLP for upfit (hood, spoiler, & Y2Y SLP optional content), but a few items went on at the factory before that (base suspension, exhaust, etc.) Look for RPO WU8 on the driver's door sticker to confirm that it's an SS.
That's the short version. Past threads on the forum discuss it in more detail. Others can fill in details and any info I've left out.

Additionally, at least for 2002 and I think for 2001 as well, Y2Y was apparently already included, or at least inferred, when WU8 option was checked during the car order, meaning SLP could put on upgraded equipment via the dealer's faxed-to-SLP optional content form for any SS ordered. But here's the rub on that- most dealers were ignorant on how the process went to add SLP optional content to SS's. Most of the time, the dealer either didn't fax the form at all(just ask Teri Lane about this), or tried to fax it in AFTER the car's VIN was given to SLP by GM. Fbodfather and Jeff explicitly explained numerous times how important this was to do this if additional SLP content was wanted. I know in my case I had to teach my salesman how to do it.
The ealier the optional content form was faxed to SLP, the better. The time period when the car got the TPW and the VIN was given to SLP was very short, in most cases, meaning that by the time some people were aware that the dealer didn't fax the special form, the VIN was already given to SLP, meaning the car was built with standard SS equipment and no more. I do not know of any exceptions to that rule, although some MAY exist.
I am not that familiar with 96/97 SLP upfits since SLP did the entire conversion on the Z28, but when GM started assisting in the SS production in '98 when some of the SS pieces were put on at the factory, there was no forseeable way for SLP to just walk up and say "We'll convert this one." It was an orchastrated effort between GM and SLP to make that happen. I'm sure 96/97 SS's had some similar safeguards against "random SLP conversions," but I'm not sure.

You could be correct. My 1996 SS also has option code R7T & WU8 on the door sticker.
I have the SLP sales bulletins/datasheets for the 1996 and 1997 SS cars. This is where I got the R7T information. At no instance do these two bulletins mention option code WU8. Both do say that R7T and QLC options are required to order the SS (GU5 axle, if w/auto transmission). Also, all of the car magazines of the day indicated that R7T was the primary option code to order the SS. (Like they're always right!)
One peculiar thing about my 1997 SS SLP sales information bulletin #2, dated July 15, 1996. It states that the Torsen differential w/AAM cover is priced at $99.00. Quite erroneous I'd say. I paid $999.00 for mine!
