ok, no more Mobil 1 M-202 oil filter?


I went to Autozone today to get oil and filters for all 7 of the cars (4 funeral home cars and 3 of my own) I found everything I needed but the Mobil one filter I needed for the SS. (M-202) Not one on the shelf or a place for it to be even if they had one!?!?! Is this something new or is my Autozone just slow as heck.. If there is a replacement why did they need to make one? I looked on their website and this is what it says about the M-202

Might be something to that. Apparently, some filters are changing numbers and others are going away. Anyway, I thought it was odd that Lorraine's 2002 Z28 came back from the dealership after an oil change with a PF46 filter, GM #88984215. Hmmm. I called them and they said the PF 44 is no more either, GM# 25010633. I checked gmpartsdirect.com and the PF 44's not listed as a good number anymore. Double hmmmm. The 97 SS shows a PF454, GM #25324052, and GM still lists it as good. I believe the PF454 superceded the PF25 filter, GM #06438261. I just checked on Autozone.com website and they're still avaialable as special order or order online for $11.99 each. M1-202. You may just have to ask for them and special order them. Call Mobil 1 at 1-800-882-0890 and see if they still make it.

Mobil 1 also has the long filter #M1-302. This is exactly like the old AC #'s PF25 (M1-202) PF35 (M1-302) and now like stated above the numbers are PF454 & PF1218

For the LS1's it is the PF46 for the short and PF61 for the long..

Yes the numbers have been changing. I asked for a PF 58 and got a PF 61 last time I went in for a filter. They told me it is the same filter, they just changed the number.

I would also look into Wix filters or NAPA Gold. They are excellent filters.

That doesn't tell us much. Do they have a UPF46? Or UPF454? I dunno. I can't seem to find any. I really don't care about how cool UPFs are unless they got something to fit our cars. I can't figure out from the ACDelco website if they have a UPF for LS1 or LT1. I still have 4 UPF44s left, so I'll just use those for the next year or so.

I sent an email to ACDelco about any new Ultragurards for the LS1, so we'll see.

Ok I went with a K&N #HP-2002 Filter, Seemed like it was a lot smaller around than my old trusty Mobil 1? anyone else notice this>?

I just went through the samething 2 weeks ago. I couldn't find the M1-202 anywhere. So I went with the M1-302...it's the same size as the old PF35L that was on the car originally. If you had the synthetic oil package.

I just ordered and received a case (6 filters in a case) of Mobil 1 M1-202 oil filters last week. My supplier said nothing about this filter being discontinued. Maybe I had better check tomorrow and order another case of them?

I have always used the M1-302 but since I lowered my 1997 SS, the M1-302 just sits too close to the ground for my comfort level.

Oh, this is rich. I emailed ACDelco to find out whether they make any Ultraguard filters for the LS1, and I gave them all the particulars, and below is the reply. Whoever typed this seems like they have no idea what they do at ACDelco. You would think they would have access to technical engineers via a quick phone call to find out if the LS1 was covered. Retards. The UPF47 wasn't listed directly, but the UPF52 was. I extrapolated the UPF numbers to regular PF numbers and looked on their website to see what vehicles the PF numbers fit. Mostly V6 applications for both, but the PF/UPF52 number fits, for one application listed, a 96 Corvette VIN P and K.(LT1/4?) so it would appear the PF to UPF direct number conversion works. (It did with old UPF44s anyway).

Regardless, if you were able to follow all that logic, it seems awful funny that they represent the very company that supplies GM with their filters and don't seem to know their own products. They're "asking" me only to use Delco or GM recommended parts. Or what? They're going to kick my a**? Why, yes, I would use your product, dipwad, if you'd only answer a simple question whether you have one or not. Quit trying to skirt the issue and answer the question like "Sorry, we don't make a UPF filter directly for the LS1." instead of trying to pass the buck to GM or the retailer.

Sorry, I digress, it's just that I hate what I perceive as incompetence from a front-line representative of a company's products. BTW, what the heck is a "pay contact number"? Now ACDelco routes you to a 1-900 number or something? Sad you have to pay for an answer to a question, if I'm reading this right.

I just got off the phone with Dale at Champ Labs (800-882-0890 or hotline@champlabs.com) who manufacture the Mobil 1 oil filters. Here is what he told me.

They are discontinuing the M1-202 and replacing it with the M1-111. The M1-111 is a little shorter than the M1-202 and contains an anti-drain back valve.

The M1-302 (the long version of the M1-202) is still a valid number. They do not recommend this filter for replacement on a car that calls for an M1-202 because of the length of the filter and their fear of it striking something and being torn off of the engine.

For newer Camaros with the LS1 engine, both the M1-107 and the M1-206 (the longer version of the M1-107) are both still valid numbers as well.

I checked with my wholesaler who I purchase my Mobil 1 filters from. They still have (90) M1-202 filters in inventory.

They also told me that Autozone was no longer stocking the full line of Mobil 1 oil filters.
