They want like 380 bucks to replace that and the thermostat and labor. is that a decent price? Is this something we should try and have a friend in the local fbody clubs help with or is it too hard to do? BTW its a 1996 SS ... any help would be appreciated [Wink]

Yo!!!! Free post Doug! [Razz] [Razz]

The pump can be had pretty cheap at GMpartsdirect.
As far as labor...its up to you! Is it worth the approx
$200.00 clams to do it yourself? Assuming $180 for
the pump and approx $200.00 for the labor.

I did mine in my 95Z28....twice. Its not a
hard job if you have the tools.

How many miles...my first one went out right
after the warranty...of course. [Roll Eyes] The second
one at about 75K...

OH yeah....one more thing.

Depending on the mileage...I would replace
the OPTI unit while you have the pump off.

As far as I know, if you have an LT1 and the water pump goes, the opti usually takes a hike at the same time. I would try to get some advice from other LT1 owners on the opti. It's definitely easier to change both at the same time.
