I ran the Auto X yesterday for my first time ever! I was nervous all week not knowing what to expect, having never ever watched an auto X. I walked the course a couple of times before the race and gots tons of pointers from people. There was some AWESOME people there and so willing to help out a 1st timer.
One of our club members came over and asked if I wanted to take a lap with her. I got in and Shai took off like a bat outa hell! I was thinking, Holy crap! I can't do this!! Tires squealin, hard turns, backend swinging out, quick turns through the slaloms, hard braking and even harder on the throttle!! I asked for an experience driver to ride with me. We get up to the starting line and I am nervous, scared and just unsure if I can do what I gotta do. I totally surprised myself when the green flag dropped and I was off!! WHAT A BLAST!! I just cannot describe how fun that was!! The suspension upgrades held up great! Tire pressure was perfect...now I gotta get some new rotors and pads!! and learn to get into the throttle a little more. I have never driven the SS like that and it was great to finally see what the car and I can do! ;D
I ended up taking 2nd place in my category!! It was a rush!! :pimp: Now, if I can only convince my hubby how fun this is and how much fun I had doing it! :-\ AND, I recommend if you haven't tried it....you HAVE to try it!! 8)

You sound as excited as I was the 1st time I went autocrossing!
Camaro Superfest Friday event is autocrossing. Should be a fun time for sure. I have drag raced many times and I have to say that the autocrossing event is a whole lot different and fast does not always make it better. I found out I was driving way too fast with my 2000 GMC Sonoma with a Vortec 4 cylinder and automatic trans. I slowed the truck down and ran a ton better. I absolutely had a blast the first time I ran autoX as well. I also learned quickly that smooth and easy is actually faster. When watching some of the autoX at BG a couple of years ago, the fastest cars actually didn't look as fast...they were smooth, hardly any sqealing rubber and no sliding. That being said though, if you're not necessarily out to win, a little sqealing rubber and back end sliding is probably way more fun!

GLad to hear you liked it. I must warn you that it is highly addictive and it will be with you for life. I ran my first solo II event in 1974 and I am STILL at it.....and still learning.
Sigh.....must be a slow learner, eh!!!!!!

Yeah what he said! highly addictive sport. Sounds like your hooked already Every course is different and every run is different. You can finish the day being 2 seconds faster then you started without doing a single car mod! I love it.

I know what you are saying. Last year I had the opportunity to ride with Bill and Elie at an autoX at Mosport. I was just a passenger and I had the time of my life. These gentlemen who belong to the TFBM were most gracious and took my two boys for rides as well. We still had big grins on our face three days later.
