My husband is a produce manager for a grocery store here. About a year ago they found a spider in the bananas...they kept it as a pet, bringing in crickets, flies and other insects for it to eat. The spider was recently handed over to a local University to determine what it was. The guys are lucky none of them were ever bitten by it!!! My husband said the spider would literally attack the insects and kill them.

OMG! about 10-12 years ago, my best friend and his mom when to the grocery store, and when his mom picked up a bunch of bananas, there was huge spider underneith. the produce manager let them keep it. he said that it looked like a banana spider and had only seen one other in his life. after looking at the pic, that is definitely the same spider that they had. we kept it in a glass jar with holes in the top and fed it insects. it lived for about 6-7 months. how scary! we had no idea that it was that poisonous.
