As of last night, my 79 Pro Street Z now has a heart again. The 496 has been put into it's place under the hood. I got it fired and running well last night. The initial fire was lit wednesday evening. It's a 496 cu in big block Chevy, with a nice set of Dart aluminum race heads on it. I bought the short block from a friend, and picked out my own choice of upper components. He had basically the same stuff that I put on it except I put a little better set of heads on it. He put it on the dyno when he owned it and it made 761hp 740 ftlbs of torque. I ought to be a little over that. His 3700lb Monte Carlo ran 10.30's on the motor with limited traction, so I am hoping my 3100lb car will run 9.70's or better on the motor, 8's with the juice. Erin and I were both really excited when I actually got it running well, now we can't wait to get it out and see what it'll do. The roller cam has a little lift, .748in .748ex, you ought to hear it thump. So as long as it's still in one piece, it'll be at BG. I may end up having to put wheelie bars and a chute on it, just depends on how well it does. The chassis is fully adjustable, 4 link, so I ought to be able to keep it off the rear bumper. As soon as I can get some track time I'll keep you posted.
