Thought I would ask the pros. Helping a friend try to find out if these engines were any good. Came out of a 1985 Suburban. Are they worth rebuilding? Did they have 4 bolt mains? Cast crankshaft? Any tidbit of info would be great. Thanks again

You can make some good power from a 454 out of a Suburban. The intake and cam should be changed as well as the addition of exhaust headers. Very good chance that 1985 454 will have a cast iron crankshaft with a 2 bolt main block. Add a nice pair of cylinder heads and maybe some pistons to up the compression a bit and you should make decent power. Here is what the internals of my son's 1970 date coded LS6 454 looks like inside. GM stock forged pistons, forged steel crankshaft and forged steel connecting rods with 7/16" rod bolts. 4 bolt main bearing caps with huge bolts. [Smile]

Greg, thanks for the info, I will pass it on and see what he decides. He plans on putting it in a 69 firebird vert. Thanks again!
