I have been told that you can not use a K&N air filter for the 96 & 97 SS models. Is there any way the air box can be modified or so other modifications I can make?

Scott there is a way to modify the air box lid. Get the K&N filter part # 33-2084, then line the inside edge of the air box lid with weather proof air tight sealing tape, I used 5/8 of an inch sealing tape I found it at Pep Boy's. I've had no problems what so ever since doing this modification.
