Now that I've found a site just for converts, I thought I might inquire about everyone's solution for BASS in their droptops (we all know the stock system is a slacker in this area). I've designed a custom box that fits in the space between the trunk and rear seat (above the rear axle "tunnel") and doesn't take up any space in the trunk. It uses either 2 or 4 8" subs and pumps some serious bass into the passenger compartment, even w/ the top down.

I've got a couple pics of the box on my web-page (FLASH), but you can email me for a .zip file w/ better pics and more info.

Any other cool solutions for bass in a ragtop?

There are pics of my amp rack and passenger side 12" stealth box on the "Pics" page of my site.

URL is in the sig.

It sounds great, but of course doesn't hit as hard with the top down. It's still plenty enough to shake all the mirrors to oblivion though.

Peace,
BadAss30th

I installed an MTX Thunderform 10" sub with a built in 100W amp...it is intended for non-convertibles, since it fits in the area where the pump for the top goes. I extended it out into the center of the trunk a bit and built a cover for it. It is pretty respectable in performance and leaves most of the trunk space open. I will post pics on my website (in my signature) shortly....

I just finished making a fiberglass and MDF box for a fosgate 12 running off an mtx 250w amp. I'll eventually get the install pics and finished pics up on a website. With the top up, and crossed over at 80hz im definitely hittin close to 138db, and when i put the top down, i switch the crossover to 125 hz, so that more signal can pass through the top. At highway speeds, its definitely respectable, expecially only on 250w. If anyones interested, i can email out pics in the meanwhile till i get the website up and running. another good idea to get bass up in the cabin is to have good midbass drivers. I have mb quarts all around in my car, and they definitely make a difference as well. I've also had the idea of creating a small fiberglass enclosure to fit in place of the part of the console where the convertible switch is, there is a lot of wasted space there, and could easily hold a small but efficient 8" woofer.
