I was curious if any of you out there have tinted the windows if your top is black. I have a polo green body, black top, and was considering getting the windows tinted, thinking that the whole top half of the car would look black, and would be actually kinda nice. Wouldnt be bad to block out the sun when its too blazing hot to have the top down. any body have any pics of this? Also, did the shop that did it for you have a problem tinting the rear window since it's not removable? Any suggestions on what % darkness? Any replies are welcome...

Thanks..

-Mike

I am going to do this soon but I have to go somewhere out of my area because no one will go lower than 35% on the side windows .
It should look good on a green Z too !

I don't remember the % but it is pretty dark. Can only see shadows inside in the daytime. I didn't do the rear window for a couple reasons. One, if it's sunny out I have the top down and the tint is useless! Two, the visibility isn't that great as it is so I need all the help I can get to see out the back! It should be easy though if you decide to have it done. It should be a lot easier than having the huge back window in a coupe done and most shops can handle that.

Mark-

Thanks for the pics, they really help my decision. Did you have the windshield tinted too? Does the back window look out of place not being tinted, or do you not notice it?

Mike -

No I didn't tint the windshield. The dark side windows make the windshield look darker though. The back doesn't look out of place without tint. And like I said, if it is sunny, the top is down! If it is cloudy or dark, you can't really tell the window is clear. I actually like it because it helps you see better.

Glad you enjoy the pics...more in the sig...

I have my side windows slightly tinted ~34-40% and my back glass very dark. My vert is black with dark grey leather interior. It looks good. The back glass was tinted only a few months ago and I believe it looks better with the sides and back tinted. In terms of visibility no real problem. My Z28 vert is not a daily driver so traffic visibility is not a concern. Check with local law patterns in term of this option. A good tint shop will not have any problems with this mod especially if they used computerized pattern-cutting apparatus.

I do not remember the % but the rear window is super dark. I also did the side windows (illegal here in Vancouver) but on my black car I really like the look.

Add to that the smoke turn signal and fog light covers and it is a very sleek look.

i have formula one tint on my 2000z, its mystic teal with a black top. the back window was done darker than the sides, its legal. i don't know the percent however i just love the way the car looks and you can still see out a night. i drive the car every day and the tint on the back window doesn't make any difference, plus it help cut the glare from headlights.
