Hi all, First, thought I'd introduce myself, as I just recently found this site. I was happy to see that there's finally a forum for people with F-Body Verts. Anyway, I just got my 99 Black SS in May, and have started looking into modding it (you can always go faster). I've been looking at catbacks, and have heard the debate of this system vs that time and again over at ls1.com. But, I've seen no mention of catbacks on verts. I've heard a lot about the 'drone' of the SLP Loudmouth system, not to mention the sheer level of volume the system brings. I was wondering, do any of you have the Loudmouth on your vert? Is it bearable? annoying at times? or is it just too loud? I've heard the Loudmouth on other F-Bodies, but have never been in a car with one on it. From the outside it sounded ok, but I'm not sure if it would be any different while driving a vert. Any opinions/thoughts you guys have on the Loudmouth/Vert combo would be greatly appreciated. TIA. I'm running a straight pipe ... single 3" tucked away like a V6 exhaust. Many say it's similar in volume to the loudmouth or possibly slightly quieter. It's definitely loud ... but my wife says to leave it like it is
With the top down it's a really nice exhaust ... especially when getting into it. With the top up it's a little louder but we can live with it. I suspect the loudmouth would be much the same.

I have the Loudmouth on my 99 SS and I think it sounds great. The car is not a daily driver. I think you will like the Loudmouth rear well. It makes a muscle car sound like a muscle car

Thanks for the replies guys. Leonard, since you have the LM on a vert, how is the drone that everyone talks about at 1500-2000 rpm? I see u have 700 miles on urs, so it probably wouldn't bother you that much. But mine is my daily driver, and almost all of my miles are done on weekends when I go from San Diego to Los Angeles, and I'm right at that range at 1800 in 6th (around 80 mph or so). It's about a 2.5 hour drive from where I live to where I go. Do you think you/I/anyone could handle the drone for that long? Mike, you'll have mail in a few minutes. PoSSum, thanks for the thoughts. I wasn't sure if having the top up or down would make it louder or quieter, you answered that question. Thanks.

Great info here guys, I appreciate it as I too am pondering a Loudmouth for my daily driver. I also have wondered anout the infamous drone at the 1800-2000 RPM range and loud vs quiet when top is up and down. Mainly I just want a good sounding exhaust that is louder and more muscular than the dual dual from SLP.

hey guys, I too have the Dual/dual and would love to get a beefier sound. I have heard some cat back systems and they can be a little over powering at some rpm levels. I am interested in the straight pipe that possum is using though. Can it be bolted in place? or is it a muffler shop job? Can i get a straight pipe in stainless? Any info would be appreciated. BTW, I put the chrome SLP emblems (from Afterthoughts) under my SS emblems on the front fenders, and you should see the puzzled looks I get! One guy asked me if my car was a special edition! cool.

I have the Loudmouth and I love it. Was to quiet with the stock exhaust. Now it sounds as good as it looks. I spend most of my time with the top down. It is not a daily driver. My neighbors don't like it much. Hope that helps. Posts: 21 | From: Stafford, VA | Registered: Feb 2000

It was a muffler shop job, removed the dual-dual muffler and tailpipes and made up the new tail pipe section out of 3" straight pipe and mandrel bent pipe to create the shape. On the latest version we also cut into the over the axle pipe behind the hanger to tuck it all up higher. The reason I did the straight pipe was to get a "baseline" unmuffled sound before I continued to experiment with mufflers. I didn't really expect it to be the final exhaust ... but I've got my wife's "blessing" to leave it the way it is now.
If I wasn't expecting future mod's, I'd get it redone in stainless, but I hope to do LT headers and Y-pipe in the next year or so and that will probably push me back to the point of needing a muffler.

thanks for the reply, I did see somewhere that you can buy the straight pipe like the V6 version for the V8, but, I'm not sure where.I definately want to stay with stainless, so may need to consult my local muffler guy. I'ts a little tricky to weld that stuff, so i need to see if it will be cheaper than the loudmouth bolt on system of $275.00. BTW, Afterthoughts has em and is offering a group discount if 6 people order. If anyone is going to proceed, drop me a line, I want in!
