I've concidered the same several times.I think it would compliment Toneau Covers quite well if you design a clamping "wind ramp" that would operate similar to top. Maybe it could have a trigagular plate on each end with a dowel to fit in the A pillar ends, where there's a factory hole already (straddled by two screws).
I like your design as well. the length is enough to smooth over the "whistling lip" and not encrouch on the "topless" feeling too much.
The top would have to be deep tinted or painted black to blend in with the factory black-trimmed windshields.
Nice prototype... I wonder if a fiberglass molded peice would work.... hmmm....
