My SS is a 99 and I find it almost impossible to get the spare tire out. Does any one else find the same and any suggestions besides the manual instructions. I just want to pull it out to check it and cleaning and I might want to put in a power antena.

I've just installed SLP y-pipe, lid, and bellows. Dec. 2003, installed Don Goetz SFC,s. February 2004 I added white gauges.

Yes, it's a PITA. Maybe add some vaselene to the tire?

You might also want to check the mounting of the shock sensor for the security system while you have the spare out. They sometimes come loose and need to be ty-wrapped to the mounting bracket.

Can you imagine trying to get that sppare tire out after a flat at 11.30 at night in the pouring rain beside a busy highway.

It took me 10 mintutes to tear out the rear carpetting and basically use brute force to get that tire out. I was p**sed and that was on a sunny day n my driveway.

What a joke.

Yes it is a VERY interesting adventure to pull that damn thing out of the trunk of a convertible.

And I SWEAR I can NEVER get the carpet to go back the same way it came out!

It's nice to see I'm not the only one having trouble with the spare. Thanks for the replies.

I took out my spare and left it out, probably not a bright thing to do. But what the hell, if a can of fix a flat won't get me there I guess I'm screwed.

I got mine out and the jack too. It was heck! I decided to keep it out and keep a can of fix a flat. Not because of the difficulty removing tire. But rather to save weight !!

WS6vert, good idea. I was thinking of a power antena and I don't think the spare would interfer but once it's out, I'd hate to go through getting it out again. I've never tried the jack, and it's not real plain as to where to use it either. When I jack the car at home, I have a very good heavy duty floor jack that I bought on sale.

I agree the spare had 2 go. I figure if it breaks i'll tow it. It's not worth the weight and aggravation!!

yeah, we found it very hard to remove the spare also. I think I took out the trim on the rh side of the crossbrace(front of trunk opening). the hard plastic part above the jack, to help with removing it, and pulled the carpet thingy out of the way also. I came to the conclusion that GM held the spare in place, then built the car around it! The power antenna fits just fine with the spare tire in place. an extra 1/2 inch would have made a lot of diffence, huh?

I never tried to remove my spare yet! I will see for myself how hard it is on a convertible.
