I'm looking to upgrade from my current 10 to either a 12 or 15. Right now as it stands I can barely hear the bass with the top down. I only want one sub for space purposes. I want as much bass as possible so I don't have to struggle to hear it, and I adding 2 inches doesn't seem like it will do much, so I've been looking at 15s, but all the store worker guys tell me 15 is not a good sub, that its to low and not loud. Also does it matter what brand I get, or do you have any suggestions.

I had two JL Audio 10W6's <10"> subs in a sealed box in my convertible. It was powered by a Rockford Fosgate 75.2 amp. It sounded decent, but without the enclosed benefit of a roof, I think it is a struggle to get a convertible to sound like a coupe stereo wise.
After a few months of listening to almost the entire car rattle, I uninstalled the system, and sold it. My advice, if sound is important, get a nice exhaust system.

I wonder if anyone has considered running a port from a 'stealth' style box along the fender and into the cabin. Just a random brainshower.. (not quite a storm )That way there would be a little more volume from the box, even with the top down.

I would not go with the 15 inch sub. They are not as accurate and quick as the smaller subs. I have 2 12s in my vert and they get plenty loud. Just make sure you get a good set up. the box needs to match the subs and amp.

You've got the right idea.
Check out my sub-box (link to info in sig). It provides an baffle between the trunk and passenger compartment and uses 2 (or 4) 8" subs to literally pump bass directly into the passenger compartment through slotted ports. It essentially turns the entire trunk volume into the "box" for the subs, which allows for very DEEP bass without sacrificing efficiency. All this without taking up useable space in the trunk. With the right components, it'll give you more bass than you'd know what to do with.

That's correct. The forward face of my box follows the same contour as the removable factory plastic filler panel that separates the trunk from the passenger compartment. This avoids interferrence w/ the top when it's put down. The soft-folded top material will partially cover the ports and reduce the bass a small amount w/ the top down. But a small nudge on the lowest EQ band compensates for the loss. Since I do most of my cruising w/ the top down, I setup my amp for a flat response w/ the top down, so when I put the top up I have to nudge the bottom band of the EQ downward to keep from blowing my ears w/ too much bass.
