I am currently installing (5th vehicle) my stereo into my latest ride. I have 2 RF amps and 1 Profile amp, and a Sony crossover. I was playing around with the idea of putting the amps on the "rear deck" in the trunk. If I keep the amps close to where the trunk dives down into the well in the back, I think there is enough room for the amps and still have the top down. I tried it and it looks like the amps come within 1" of the back window. Anyone mounted amps there?

Personally I won't recommend mounting anything that close to the back glass when it is down.If you had something back there and it went on top of the amp and you put the top down, the back glass could break. That would be expensive. How about mounting the amp behind the spare tirewell?

As long as you don't protrude any further towards the glass than the removable plastic filler panel does, you should be OK. But always be sure like 2002Z4CSS says to not toss anything back there that may cause interferrence. That's just a bad habit to get into to begin with.

I have mine mounted there. They have been in for over a year with no problems at all. I never throw anything back there and to me, it's the perfect place for amps because the shelf is pretty much useless for other things. I didn't mount them in the fenderwell because I worried about them coming loose and denting the fender as well as overheating. Go for it!

I mounted all my stuff in the deep well in the trunk and built a custom box for a single 12". Then fabbed a cover plate to conceal the amp, x-over, and cap. If you're interested, check out the pictures on my cardomain site. Sounds great with the top up, but with it down......eehhh, it's okay.

I put my amps in the well strapped down with brakets with locking nuts, I've got two back there with the tire, I haven't had any problems with heat or anything and I do crank the stereo very loud. Here are pics http://community.webshots.com/album/79485783kIzaYYPosts: 13 | Registered: Jan 2003
