When driving the Vert, I notice a "floating" sensation. It is like the car is trying to walk the road. Everything is good mechanically. I do not feel this when driving the Coupe. Is this Vert body flexing or what? Very uncomfortable feeling at higher speeds. Any comments for me? [Confused]

...having an '02 vert myself, I'd have to agree you're experienceing the 'normal' body flex characteristic of a convertible. Possibly could be described as 'indepenent suspension through body flex', ...being funny, but sort of true.
I installed a set of (D. Goetz) subframe connectors (bolt-on) and it is night and day. If the body flex concerns you (and that is indeed what is happening), ...give serious consideration to subframe connectors.

Kevin,
I have the Goetz SFC's already on her. I know they change the feel and handling, but this is really a bad type feeling. I would have hoped the SFC's and STB would have stopped the flex. I just wonder if there is that much flex in the Verts and that SFC's do not support that much? I would hate to drive her without the SFC's!
There has to be an explaination somewhere.
Thanks. Happy Holidays to you.

Jim I have owned 4 verts 4th gens and 3 of the SS's and you will not fell flex in them that way. All of mine have been very solid on the road. You need to have your front alignment checked and I bet the toe-in is off on it. Would not hert to have a 4 wheel alignment check. I have run these verts at speeds up to 150 and over and they do not float, neither should yours

Ours got the "floaty" feeling above 120 (not a frequent practice). Lowering it a little w/the Eibach springs and putting SFC's and an STB seemed to have fixed it.

With only 5,000 miles on her, I would think all would be okay. I will take her in tomorrow and let them look at her. Thanks everyone for the help and info. Happy Holidays to you all.

After owning a 1997 30th Anniversary Z28 and a 1999 Z28 ,both were coupes...The 1st time I drove the 2002 SS convertible it felt real strange.I bet the SFC's will tighten that up a lot. [Smile]

I agree that you need to get your front end alignment checked. I think it is covered under warranty to 7500 miles, but I can't promise that. You shouldn't get the floaty feeling in my opinion, especially if you have SFCs and STB installed. Mine wasn't that bad before I added them and it is fantastic now. I cruise mine pretty fast too on the autobahn. If I am not in a hurry I cruise about 100 mph. If I am in a hurry, I cruise 120-130 and I haven't noticed it with mine. The turns on the autobahns also aren't banked that much. For the most part, the banking where they have it is more to follow the contour of the ground and ensure drainage than it is for fast driving. Your car should definitely drive better than that.

I recently had some rear bushings replaced under the warranty on my '02 vert. They had been sqeaking for quite a while but suddenly got worse. Once I picked up the car I noticed an immediate improvement in straight line stability. The car didn't seem to want to follow the seams and ridges in the road like it had since it was new.

I wonder if your situation could be caused by the same thing. If the rear body can move slightly from side to side while the front end stays straight, you will get the equivalent of "rear wheel steering".

This might not be your problem but it wouldn't hurt to check it out.

Are the tires the same on both cars - inflation the same? These make a big difference.

The main reason I said have the front end checked is when Cindy and I got the twin 2001's hers drove like a dream very solid and mine felt loose on the road and followed truck groves in the pavement some and hers didn't. They can be off alittle from shipping and being chained down on the trucks. When checked they found the toe-in off on mine and after it was set is drives as good as hers
