Warning!!! Cruise Control-get Yours Checked!
OK THIS HAS BEEN A REALLY BAD DAY!! I am in Grapevine getting gas and as I leave the gas station I am starting to turn left to get behind a truck at the light. I start the turn and just barely touch the gas and cruise control kicks in puting my car into a spin and my feet were LOCKED on the brakes and it just kept pushing me. Well needless to say the truck is what stopped me! I hit my front RIGHT corner into his rear end. Luckily for me it didnt even scratch his truck. He felt bad for me, I was affraid to even let off the brake for a split second. My car is driveable but the right fender, bumper cover, hood, and headlight assembly are all cracked beyond repair. GM is gonna get an earful in the morning! I WILL NEVER FORGET THE SOUND OF MY CAR BEING DESTROYED! This totally sucks. See a pic on my home page at ..... www.SilverSS.cz28.com

See the pics page too for the rest of the pics.

GET YOURS CHECKED OUT, PLEASE!

I am so sorry to hear about your car, but I have to ask a question:
Was there any chance your floormat somehow got on top of your accelerator and when you pressed on the brake, it also pushed the mat onto the gas pedal harder?

I had this same problem. The problem is in the throttle body. It gets stuck open from the carbon that collects in it. Its a notorious problem with the throttle body they use in our cars. I had it cleaned and the problem stoped completly. When I had this problem all I had to do was stab the gas pedal real quick and it would loosen it up so it could close on deceloration.

I have had it happen on mine(the only way to get my engine to stop racing was to turn the cruise control switch off), took it to the dealer and the dealer changed the cruise control module. this is what happened to me - http://www.hoodscoop.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=4;t=019944#000000

I checked my throttle body yesterday. It had a fair amount of oil around the edges, but no carbon deposits. The oil completely wiped off with a rag.

Then I checked my daily driver a 97 Cavalier Z24. The throttle body was sticking shut from dried/cooked on oil, had to use carborator cleaner to get it off.

The PCV system on both cars feed into the throttle body/intake before the throttle plate. Neither car uses oil between oil changes. The Cavalier has always had conventional oil and the Camaro has always had synthetic(came with Syntec new and I switched to Mobil 1 1st oil change), looks like a good reason for me to stick with Mobil 1.

You can also turn the ignition off.
