What's up fellas,

I just purchased an almost perfect condition 01' Blk SS. Some minor scratches but Monday I take her to a body shop for a touch up. It had most all the options except the SLP high perf-exhaust 3' pipes, "SS" floor mats, Rear deck "SS" mat and Engine plaque. But this minor stuff is not that important to me. I did order the engine plaque at $50.00. It would appear to me that under extreme heat from the engine block would make the plaque discolor or possibly melt. Has anyone had this happen? I also got the better air-lid. I also installed an 80-series Flowmaster muffler and so far I am very satisfied with the sound and car. I was thinking about a complete Borla or GMMG system but right now the stock is good for me. This SS is strickle a pleasure. I became interested in the Z-28s back in 1979 when I was just a kid and a neighbor of mine bought a new blu/wht Z-28. He took me for a ride and I was hooked. The power, styling, American engineering was just awesome. I finally bought a blk 79' Z-28 in 1988 with a 350. I had to sell it though for financial problems. I have a lot of questions and I'm hoping you experienced guys can help me out. I promise to give back to this message board when I become more familiar with my SS and the "SS addiction"! I need to recommend a battery tender to you guys and I feel it's really worth it only if you don't drive it much.

First off I have my old airbox(stock) and my stock stainless steel muffler and can I get anything(money) for this stuff?

My questions,,,,,,,,,

- Stickers, I don't like em. The passenger seat belt sticker is off, sun visors and inside the passenger door area was an SLP sticker that was unreadable-I took it off. Now what about the Battery sticker, engine stickers, airbox lid warning sticker(special coolant)? Inside the drivers door well is the *service parts ID sticker*, under that one is *MFD by GM of Canada sticker* and *Tire loading info-vehicle weight sticker*. Can I remove these? I called SLP and they say the stickers give the car value.

-The birth certificate from SLP. Is it worth it? Did you frame yours?

-Dents and pings in the finish-How do you deal with this? A little scratch, do you live with it or try and touch it up and possibly risk making it worse?

-The Camaro SS dash plaque, does it look nice? wouldn't the extreme heat in the car on a hot summer day melt the glue and it then could fall off?

Thanks to all who will respond to my questions and BE GOOD TO YOUR SS!

Ray,

Wow! You've got lots of opinions and questions! The only comment I wanted to respond to at this point was about the "SLP engine plaque for $50.00". This is not a "small plastic envgraved number plate" but is made out of billet aluminum. I don't think you will have a problem with that discoloring or melting from the engine heat. This is a fairly new item from SLP and several of the SSOA members have ordered them. I have not done this yet but may sometime.

Just a thought and observation from someone who has only been around for a few months: cool it - just ask one or two questions at a time. You will get a much better response that way. You may even want to back off of the SLP bashing somewhat.

Most of the discussions are held in the General Discussion area. You will get more responses there.

Welcome to the group.

First of all, welcome.
Take a deep breath and come on over to the SSOA General Discussion area. You'll find a few more members over there who will read your questions and be able to help you out. You might want to put each question in it's own thread to keep the discussion from getting too confusing. Once you're on here awhile, you'll get the hang of things and in no time, will be answering questions like a pro.

If you haven't already joined the SSOA, links to the membership application are in my signature.
Membership is $40 for the first 2 years and is $10 for dues renewal after that.
You'll get a packet full of SSOA goodies and a Letter of Authenticity for your SS when you join.

As answered above, the engine plaque is aluminum and shouldn't have any melting issues.

You might want to save any stock items that come off your car, so you can let them go with the car, if you sell it in the future. It makes it more valuable to some people if the car comes with it's original parts.

Leave your door stickers. They provide important information regarding service info and RPO codes for the car. It may diminish the car's value to a future owner if it's stripped of the information that verifies what it is. Get a replacement sticker from SLP so you can prove what additional content the car came with.
As far as the stickers under the hood. If you take them off, keep them in a folder so you can refer to them if you need service and for a future owner, so they can see information that's important to the car's service & care.

It's worth it if you are wanting documentation for your car. Yes, we framed ours.

A few people around here have had good luck with Painless Dent Removal for small dings.

It all depends on how deep it is. Some scratches will fill with polish, some need to be rubbed out, others need to be touched up. You might want to check w/a body shop on it if you don't want to tackle it yourself.

The SS dash plaque looks great. The adhesive used will not allow it to just "fall off" on it's own. (Just how hot do you think this car is going to get?)

I havent posted in awhile seeing how dead this board is. I think you should keep all the stickers on the car. As mentioned above, They are needed if you take it to a shop that is not 100% familiar with your car for service. A suggestions on the exhast. I recommend the Loudmouth Exhast System that SLP sells. Its Inexpensive in comparisson to most cat back exhast systems and it provides the same if not better performance wise. The biggest thing youll notice is the sound. The LM in my opinion is the best sounding exhast for our f-bod cars.
