After my latest trip to the track I have noticed that I have a harder time trying to shift consistently. Those tach marks are a little small when you are trying to pay attention to everything else at the track. Has anyone out there tried any of the shift lights on the market? I was wondering how hard it would be to tie in a RPM activated switch or the self contained types. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Harlan makes a nice (and really small) shift light that will work great. Possum has one, and so do a few others. I sure they can send you to a link for it.

Steve's right ... a number of us have the Harlan shift light. I really like it.
I have the Harlan shift light too. A number of us in the Toronto F-body Motorsports club got together last spring and bought them under a group purchase. It was a great deal.
Then three of us installed them in my driveway one day. We had a lot of fun doing that. The hardest part was getting the PCM in and out, which came out in order to run the wires through the gourmet in the firewall behind the PCM.
I have mine mounted on top of the steering wheel column bezel (velcro'd). Works very well there. It is small, black and blends right in.....except for when the LEDs go off and then you can not miss it.

Is this guy hard to contact? I have sent 2 different e-mails with a couple of questions and have gotten no reply. Auto Meter is more expensive but at least has answered my questions.

I have one of his lights as well. Hid it in the a/c vent.

Yup! That was a fun day in Bill's driveway! I'll also give a thumbs-up to the Harlan! With mine being the only Camaro being worked on that day, I got to put mine behind the dash vents. This location is a lot more difficult to do on a Firebird with its different dash configuration. In any event, it has worked flawlessly, and I love being able to experiment by easliy changing the RPMs that it is set to go off at.

I just got done installing my new shift light by Raptor Performance. Some of you may be familiar with the Harlan shift light, which is known for being a very small, programmable system. This one's even smaller and also much better built, in my opinion.
Impressions --
Purchase and shipping were a piece of cake. I ordered it on Friday and it came in yesterday. No 6 week wait like some others.
Options of different body and LED colors were pretty cool, but I stuck with the silver body/red LED combination since it matched my car best.
It comes with a 10' cable, ready to be installed, unlike some others.
Clear and concise instructions. Very simple setup. RPM is set by two trim pots and engine type by 3 dip switches. No need to open up the device, as all the controls are accessible through the top.
Installation wasn't too rough. I installed it in the center air vent, so it's not visible outside of the car. The hardest part was getting the cable through a grommet in the firewall. Took about an hour with my friend, Jonathan (Jon2001sc2) helping.
The install really is a piece of cake. The hardest part by far was trying to get the tach cable through the rubber grommet in the firewall. A coat hanger and some tape made that simple once we figured it out, though. It took less than an hour and we weren't rushing at all.
Build quality looked top notch. Aluminum housing and LED cluster are great. Didn't seem flimsy at all.
Overall -- Great buy. At $75, it's not too bad. A little pricier than the Harlan, but worth the cash. I like it.
