Have a 95 Z28 with 97K on it and had to have it towed the other day, would no start. The distributor(what they call it now just a place to bring in al the wires) was bad and also had low fuel pressure, well they checked the fuel pump (original), and the connector to the pump was melted and it also is in the gas??? What’s up with this? Look deadly to me. The mechanic mad never seen this design before and in his option is very dangerous. Any recall on this any one know about?

I have seen the melted fuel pump and or connector countless times. It won't catch on fire due to no air in the tank just gas fumes. [Smile]

I guess you’re a mechanic? Hummm, so any oxygen in the tank will set it off then? How is it kept out when you refuel?

It's not that there is 'none', just that it's way too rich to ignite. For your info, it's common to have static discharges zapping inside fuel tanks while filling! Same story, too much fuel vapor so combustion can't happen. [Eek!]

I am a former Master Automotive Techician and have worked in cars for over 25 years for a living.Like the reply above stated,too rich and not enough oxygen in the fumes.You can put a lit cigarette out on a jar of gas. The fumes are the only thing that actually burns when exposed to air.
