Has anyone had a loud clicking noise when turning left at low speed coming from the rear axle near the disk break rotor. I have an 01 WS6 RAM AIR TA with 25,000 miles.The dealer has pulled the axles and checked the rear end and they claim GM sayes this is normal.What do you think?

Welcome to the board! If you have a Zexel Torsion rear axle,they may make a clunking noise on light acceleration and when cornering. That noise is caused by worm gears in the differential that move on a shaft.

I have had 5 different 4th gens and they all do it. Everyone I have had does it at times even the 2 cars with the Auburn rears do it at times.Nothing to worry about. Posted by J.B. (Member # 2112) on :
Does anyone know what rearend the 99 SS has? Mina also has a type of rumbling noise on decel.

Stock rear end is the Torsen (synthetic fluid). SLP optional rear end is the Auburn (mineral based/dino fluid).
From the SSOA FAQ:
What is the proper differential fill? According to the Camaro owners manual, the Torsen limited slip differential uses 2 quarts of synthetic 75W-90 oil (GM part number 12378261 or equivalent) and 4 ounces of GM Limited-Slip Differential Lubricant Additive (aka Lubrizol, GM part number 1052358).
According to the SLP owners insert, the Auburn uses 2 quarts of non-synthetic 80W-90 oil and 2 ounces of Lubrizol.
In both cases, the Lubrizol friction modifier is only used to reduce noise from the differential. However, leaving it out may affect your warranty.

Does anyone know exactly why these rear ends make so much noise? Are they defective and in need of some kind of repair or are they just noisy because of a bad design? Is it something that is going to break after a while? I really love the car but can not afford to put a rear end in it. Thanks in advance for your replies. Jim

I just has this problem and had to replace both axles due to the axle bearings wearing on the axles. Same exact noise. Axles were 189 a piece and a few hours of labor. Thank God for my extended warranty, 50.00 deductable.. All quiet now.
