People can start posting their interest here. As that interest grows, an official method of reserving your spot will be developed.
Steve da Wrench has made some reservations for us already (dinner and go-karts). After he's done driving himself nuts with his LS1/6-speed install in his '68 Camaro Coupe, he'll figure out a way to get everyone signed up.

You can put my name down as well for all activities. Depending on room available, I would also like to sponsor a couple of people, as I did last year.

Please respond in this thread if you want to attend SSOA Thursday in Bowling Green, KY on 9/18/03 and I'll add you to the spreadsheet.
We have room for 80 people, giving preference to SSOA members (the head count should include spouse/significant other & family/kids in the same car with the member).
If you want to sponsor a non-SSOA member, they will be added to the list, but please realize that members will be accommodated until the initial rush of responses are noted.
Please make sure we have your current email address, as we'll be emailing everyone as the event nears to get names and info for nametags.
If you are not able to attend, please let us know so someone else can have your place.
Steve da Wrench will post a tentative agenda, soon.

Thanks for having me down already, Teri, I would ask to sponsor Bill & Alice Mason as I did last year. As well there may be a couple of other people from the Toronto hoping to participate as well, room permitting. If it would be a good idea to get heir names on the list early, their names are Adrian (who also attended last year)& Anka White, and Mike Cable. Thanks!

Since we'll be rolling to to your place on Tuesday, it sounds like that's when the festivities will begin!
Once we get checked into the hotel on Wednesday, we'll figure out somewhere to go eat dinner and leave word in the hotel lobby on where to find us.
Steve and I will have 2-way FRS radios with us, so I encourage everyone to go out and buy one. I have been very happy with my Motorola brand radios. They're not expensive, and can be invaluable when caravaning or looking for someone in the crowd. Some of the other brands may nor may not be as good...I've heard mixed results. It would be nice if everyone at SSOA Thursday has a 2-way FRS radio so they can stay in touch if they get separated from the group.

Teri What model Motorola do you have?
Posted by HTWLSS (Member # 117) on :
quote:Originally posted by MaryandRalph: Teri What model Motorola do you have?
They're at home...I'll have to get back with you on that. I'm sure they're obsolete and not available.
If you go to http://www.Dealtime.com and type in "Motorola" in the 2-way Radios category, you'll find many sources for many models. The ones we have are VOX capable, but we've never stepped up and bought the earpieces for them to use that feature.
The features I shopped for were:
at least a 2 mile range (on flat ground)
14 channels, preferably one with subchannels
# of batteries (disposable or rechargeable)
talk time, standby time (bang for the buck factor as far as battery usage/cost goes)
Just about any model in the $20 - 35 price range will be fine. There is a huge range in price for the same model, so it pays to shop around. It looks like the current models out there are the Motorola Talkabout T5200 ($27 through Amazon.com), Talkabout T5420 ($20 through Amazon.com & Office Depot), Talkabout T5320 ($22 through AbtElectronics.com).
If you jump up to the 5 mile range, GMRS capable radio (like the Talkabout T5620), you may need an FCC license. Look around for a model that's been superceded by a change that doesn't affect the function (color, button location, shape, etc.). You'll still get a quality item for a good price. I found our Talkabouts on clearance at Target. The original price on them was about $45 & $65, but I got them for half that and they have all the bells & whistles. They were the prior year's color/design, but the features & functions were the same as the current ones.
I also found several accessories (belt clip, charger, belt holster) for them at Office Depot waaaay in the back in their clearance section for 75% off. It pays to look around.

I have the 5420 and it's an excellent unit! I find that the most important feature in an FRS is the clarity of reception (my hearing ain't too good with the T's off! )and the Motorola units are superb in this regard. I have the VOX headpiece/mic unit for this and it seems to be oversensitive to background noise (like drivingwith the T'ss off!). There's no squelch adjustment as there is on some other makes. I have yet to see VOX work consistently on an FRS. No question about the value of having one of these in a convoy - the added safety these things provide is immeasurable! I remember using them last year on the way to Bolton's Landing for dinner on that narrow, hilly, curvy road and a few people neded to know if it was safe to pass the horse and buggy!
If you aren't on it and want to attend SSOA Thursday in Bowling Green, KY on 9/18/03, please let me know and I'll take care of it.

One question: Are we doing the special plant tour this year?

quote:Originally posted by jkeene: One question: Are we doing the special plant tour this year?
Due to a simultaneous event going on at the NCM (The Ruby Reunion), Plant tours will be conducted during normal hours. Steve scheduled our car wash/detail session from 9-11 a.m., the same time as the plant tour, so you won't miss anything important with us if you choose to do the tour instead of sprucing up your car.
The 11a.m. to 2 p.m., meet and greet/lunch is important, so make sure you're done w/the plant tour by then so you can join us for that.
If you are planning on attending the plant tour, be sure to read their instructions.
quote: Corvette Assembly Plant Tour Guidelines (Issued by the Corvette Assembly Plant)
Monday - Friday 9 am and 1 pm
About our Tours Watch the fascinating assembly process of America's favorite sports car in a one mile walking tour. Observe as robots weld the steel structure and our dedicated workforce adds parts in Trim and Chassis. See an engineering marvel as the chassis and body come together in "marriage". Witness the birth of new Corvettes at First Start and the thrilling drive off at the end of the line. We are a handicapped accessible facility.
Days and Times Public Tours are available Monday through Friday at 9 am and 1 PM CT. Reservations for groups of 10 or more are available by calling 270.745.8287.
How to Get Tour Information Keep up to date on status of plant tours by calling 270.745.8419 of logging onto www.bowlinggreenassemblyplant.com. Internal business matters can cause cancellation of tours, so it is best to call ahead.
What to Wear/What to Bring Closed toe shoes (no sandals) are requirement for all visitors. No cameras, backpacks, purses, fanny packs, or other packages or containers may be brought into the plant except by special request (for medical reasons, etc.).
Age Restrictions Children must be seven years of age or older. School groups must be forth grade or above.
Plant Shutdowns Tours are closed on most major Holidays and during the first two weeks in July. Tours may also be canceled during pre-production of future models or due to unexpected business matters, so call tour information ahead!
