can some one walk me through how to reset the service engine soon light? it is false alarmed, I only have 700 miles on the car so i just need to reset it to default. help please! anybody?? Posted by SS RRR (Member # 726) on :
W/ the car shut off take the negative cable off. From what I hear on a LS1 you are not to turn the key while the negative cable is off. Wait for about 5min and retighten the negative cable and you should be good to go.

I thought the correct was was to turn the ign on, pull the pcm bat and pcm ign fuses, wait five minutes, put fuses back in, turn ign off?

We'll, disconecting the negative terminal did work, but only temporarily. after shutting the car off, it went on again. I read in the owners manual, that a solid light (no blinking) indicates a problem with the emmisions system. IE backfire/fuel related problem. I dont think its a major problem but since the car only has 700 miles on it I should probably have it checked out by the dealership. It runs great despite the light. Anyone have any feed back? should I try another method of resetting it?? Posted by 98TripleWhiteWS6Vert (Member # 1095) on :
The other problem, is when you pull the neg on the battery, you have to enter the radio code again, correct?

Quite correct. your method of pulling fuses and diconnecting the negative cable both work. the light goes off. Only problem. in my case it keeps coming back on. I assume then, its not a false alarm after all.I'm not resetting any of my radio presets until its fixed! Off to the dealership I go! Posted by SS RRR (Member # 726) on :
As long as you disconnect power to the PCM it should work fine. If it is an emisions code then it could be your AIR pump, cats, EGR or EGR solenoid or maybe fuel purge solenoid. Post up when you find out.

Ok, here's what happened. It wasinfact the Mass Air sensor. The dealership, replaced it.It was malfunctioning and came up on error code. The CAGS was another story.I told the dealer that I had modified the CAGS, and I would deal with that part. I went home, jacked up the car and to my disbelief, found a fairly charred resistor and black electrical tape! I have no idea what happened here, but It definitely charred the heck out of the resistor. I installed a 1/2 Watt resistor from Radio shack, reset the light by unplugging the fuses and so far its A-OK. No SES light (Yet)Is the 1/2 watt resistor too much?? It's what the posts I've read say to install. Any one having this problem??

That is weird. Usually when a MAS goes out the car will act up. Good hearing it's back to 100%.

I am guessing you used a resistor to defeat the cags. It is not enough to make sure you picked the right ohm resistance. You have to make sure the resistor has enough wattage to dissapate the energy. You had the ohms right but need more capacity essentially, ...I think...LOL
