I have a 98 firebird that i am looking to race. I am either going to get a supercharger or turbos. Which one would be better for my vortec v-6. Is there any other thing that i could add to get a hp boost? Thanks, Gavid Posted by 2002Z4CSS (Member # 1393) on :
Turbos use exhaust that is already waste from the engine. A supercharger takes HP to spin it from the engine.

supercharger. . .always! Biggest reason is that the turbo uses exhaust gases for turbine rotation causing excessive heat to the unit, and inefficiency, or re-circulated exhaust to the engine. The supercharger is driven directly from the engine via a belt. But beware, superchargers will cause detonation in the combustion chamber due to the compressed air that goes into the manifold. You must have some expert advice as to the size and compressor volume for your engine. Premature detonation will ultimately "clank" your engine to an untimely death!
