I have a six speed comp T/A.
Is it normal to get around 200 miles of city driving?

I have a 2002 SS with an automatic and get 20-21 mpg in the city. Got the same in my 1999 Z-28 automatic. High 20's on the highway. Always seen to get more than 200 miles per tank in the city. [Smile]

Our highway best was 420 miles on one tank.

NO IT ISN'T NORMAL.

WHAT RPMS ARE YOU CRUISING AT? 3000? IN MY 6 SPEED, IF I DRIVE REAL HARD, REAL HARD I MIGHT BE ABLE TO ONLY GET 200 MILES ON A TANK, I AVERAGE ABOUT 290, PARTIAL CITY, PARTIAL HIGHWAY IN MY COMMUTE.

20/21 combined/about 250 before fill with little less than a 1/4 tank showing.

There seems to be quite a range of mpg figures for these cars. My '99 had the check gauges light come on at about 215 miles during city driving. Note that the light usually comes on at about 13.5 gallons gone (at least on the two I've owned) which still leaves 3 gallons in the tank. I do more freeway driving now so I get anywhere from 250 to 300 miles before the light comes on. The best mileage I've ever gotten where I drove the whole tank on the freeway is about 24 mpg. I'm a very aggressive driver, though, so I don't get very good mileage. Mine were both 6 speeds also. If you do a check on the busy boards (ls1.com, etc.) you'll find that people claim up to 27 or 28 miles to the gallon on the highway and well over 20 during city driving. I've never been able to even come close to those figures. I get 15 to 16 mpg in town and 22 or 23 on the highway.

Well I guess I've been going through the gears a bit. I've owned the car for two weeks now and I'm really grooving on the 3" loudmouth exhaust.
I suppose if I shift from 1st to 4th more often
my mileage would increase.
I also have a check engine light coming on.
If I reset the "service engine soon" light, It will take two to three days to come back on.

Check your gas cap. SES comes on if your gas cap isn't on right or tightened down all the way. Mine took a couple of days to come on.

I have aa 6 speed and I get about 18 MPG on my daily local commute. On a road trip to Florida, all highway, I averaged 30 MPG.

I think the SES light might have something to do
w/ the bad gas mileage. I checked the gas cap & reset the SES light last weekend and two days later it turned on again.
I live in the Houston area, So I need to find
a good reputable shop to properly trouble shoot
the problem. Corvettes of Houston work on many
LT-1's. I'll give them a call to see if they would be willing to take a look @ it.
Maybe they'll bend the rules since I bought a 98 model vette from them.

My 97 has done a best 24 on the highway with a 6 speed. My normal drive is country road with some city stop and go, I usually get about 225 miles to a tank then.

The lifetime average of my 2002 SS M6 is 19.17 mpg. Highest ever was 24.73 mpg.
As far as mileage per full tank is concerned, I've averaged 271 miles. Worst ever was 213, best was 359.
To answer the question, I don't think less than 200 is normal. I dunno, man. During normal city drives (to work, to groceries, etc), I don't rev high. I actually like keeping the engine burbling between 1 and 3K rpm because it sounds good. :-D

Hey, Cal, How's it going? Did you get settled in to Atlanta yet? You missed a couple of pretty good parties the past couple of months. We miss having someone to give the Ford award to [Wink] . Good to hear from you.
Bill

Hiya Bill! Yeah, I am quite settled in ATL now but still miss Portland/Vancouver very much. How was the CRCC's Fall Colors run? Did you have good weather? Try to give the Ford award to Amy. I don't think she's ever won it yet.
My mileage hasn't been as good here in Atlanta as it was in Portland, but I guess that's because my daily route doesn't have any freeway in it.

It's always hard to get used to a new place. I still miss California after 7 years. I missed the Fall Colors Run. Apparently Ray's transmission went out before they had gone too far, so they waited till he got on the tow truck and then did a run out the gorge along the falls road. We had originally planned to go out to the coast. The weather wasn't too bad that day. Just a tiny bit of wet stuff. I had thought Amy got the award for getting stopped for aggressive driving after leaving A&W that one time. [confused] She came out to our place for the party after the holiday dinner and got pretty buzzed. I had never seen her drink before. She was wanting to play strip poker with Willie, but unfortunately it never happened. [Frown] Willie kinda sorta had a date already. (We saddled him with one of Kelly & Laural's friends.) Amy had a red face all night! Ya shoulda been there. Well, have a great holiday season and we'll talk at you later.

I have had a 02 six speed SS for about 6 months, and I get about 17-18 MPG around town.
Pretty much even on hwy and city driving. Rarely do I drive it hard, and get about 200 to 225 miles per tank running prem gas.
