When I installed my SLP air lid I did the ram air mod listed on the LS1 website. I think it really helped get air to the engine. It sounds alot better also. This my be old news but I thought it was a easy mod to do. http://www.f-body.org/rob/98z/ramair/index.htm
Has anyone else tried this mod?

It's real easy. The hardest part is trying to cut the plastic filter housing. I found that a dremel with a cut off disk worked the best but have plenty of disks. The disk gets really hot and breaks. It took me about 6 or 7 disks to cut it out. DON'T use a cut off tool that uses a bit. It really leaves a tearable line. It's good to have someone help you when you cut the radiator shroud. They can catch the piece of plastic before it falls down into never never land.

I have done the free ram air mod and it does work . Before I did the free ram air mod my best ET was a 13.32 at 104mph and that was in a cold day in November. After I did the free ram air mod, I went back to the track on a cold day in late October (a year later with no other new mods.)and ran my best ET ever [Eek!] 13.07 at 106mph and back it up with a 13.09 at 106mph, and 13.14 at 107mph. I just added SLP's cold air induction scoop to see if it will pick up alittle more power. It feels like it's pulling better in the upper RPM range with the scoop [Big Grin] . Now all I have to do is wait for the track to open back up. [Razz]

I can't say I felt or saw any difference with the FRA mod, but it definitely brings in more air as evidenced by the much dirtier air filter (even more so once I added the cold air induction).

I used Dremel's #542 cutting wheel and it worked great.

It does make your air filter more dirter. Thats why I took my K&N out and put the OEM paper filter back in, just use the K&N for the track. I put a SLP cold air induction scoop on my SS. I didn't know if it would pick up anymore HP or not with the scoop. I drove it for the first time with it and I do think it's getting alot more air. It ran vary strong on the top end.

You only have to cut out the bottom under the plastic. Don't cut the shroud. Just pull it out. In fact pull the upper and lower shroud out and put in a cold air induction kit like the Supersucker. the Supersucker got me into the 12's [Big Grin]
