I ordered my 2002 SS with the Hurst Short Throw Shifter. It set me back $325.00. Can someone tell me if this shifter is as good as some of the after market pieces? Pros and cons if you have some personal info.

I can't comment on other after market shifters, but I like it better than the stock one. I've been tempted to get something with a shorter throw, but this one works pretty good. No missed shifts and pretty easy to move into the right gears with little effort.

Thankyou for the come back. I agree with you as the Hurst seems quite good in all those departments.

My '02 SS came with a Hurst short throw shifter, but I might go with a Pro 5 or Ripper after I do
the drill mod that allows more fluid to flow during WOT shifts.

I had the factory Hurst, with Lou's Short Stick and upgraded to the Pro 5.0 using the same stick.

At first I thought they felt much the same ... but the improvement was really noticeable powershifting at the track.

After reading some posts on this board I went with the Pro 5.0. It definitely solved the 2-3 shift problems I had with the SLP installed Hurst short throw. The only complaint is that the shifter makes more noise because of less plastic inside(or so I have been told)

I installed the Pro 5.0 and the Lou's Short Stick this afternoon. It made enough difference that I would recomend it to anyone wanting shorter and faster throws. The Pro 5.0 also has positive adjustable stops. I didn't notice anymore appreciable noise, just lots of fun rowing through the cogs. The only thing is that I now have lots of shifter boot, as the Lou's handle is only about 3 inches total.
Well worth the bucks!

u darn right it is. . .i have it in my 35th, and can slam the gears w/o mis-shifting every time! The shifter allows me to hit max rpm's with complete confidence. . .it's a real gear banger shifter!

I've heard nothing but good things about most aftermarket shifters for the F-bod. The biggest complaint about the stock hurst is the 2-3 shift from what I've seen so far. I don't seem to have a problem with it, but others have.

The Hurst shifter was about the only factory option that I didn't have on my SS. But I installed the aftermarket Hurst billet shifter this Spring, followed by the Short Stick a couple weeks later. At first, I wasn't sure I liked it that well; it really took about a thousand miles before I got used to / comfortable with such a very short stick. Now...? I love it! But there are some teething pains - I don't think you can just jump into it without some transition time.

I replaced the Hurst short throw with the Pro-5/LSS combo also. Works great and didn't notice any noise difference.

A friend of mine just bought a 2000
z28 w/hurst this week, its been a long time
since I've driven one with that unit as
I have a Pro w/lss.
I said you HAVE to get it.
I felt like I was shifting my commercial
truck. I couldn't believe how long the throw
was since I got used to mine plus now the factory
unit looks silly to me-no offense intended just
my .02

Diffently worth every penny

The Factory Hurst shifter with LSS is very satisfactory. If you are missing third gear it's because you are using the wrong hand placement on the shifter. Do not place your hand on the left side of the shifter, place it behind the shifter and push. It will shift right intinto third gear every time.
