Today my horn has failed AGAIN (5th Time!) so it's back to the dealer and another day without my car! Has anybody else had this problem? It seems like after it rains 1-2 days or I go through an unavoidable puddle the horn sounds like a broken childs toy or a hoarse moose in the woods. Is it the poor quality replacements? It sounds like you have a unique problem. I would check the shrouding and under body closeouts for proper installation. I drive my 97 daily and have had no problems with the horn!!

The horns are in the right front corner of the car at the bottom. You get to them by removing a large black cover under the corner of the car. Soemthing like 10 10 mm bolts.
I had this problem to. I was replacing the horns every 6 to 8 months. One or two long horn blasts and they were toast. This can get expensive. The last time I was buying aftermarket horns I mentioned to the guy behind the counter that they sure did not last long.
He told me to replace the horn relay with an aftermarket one (i.e.: anything but GM). He said the GM one goes bad, and take out the horn (voltage drop, current limitation......???)
I have now replaced the horns and the relay and the horns seem to be lasting. They have survived several looonnnggg blasts.

By any chance maybe the horns are coming on at times for a long period.That will burn them out.I have seen chafed horn relay wiring and sensitive horn contacts cause this.

No, no not by chance. Completely intentional It's amazing how long it can take to get some "drivers" (and I use that term lightly here) attention.
Like backing out of parking spaces without looking, or changing lanes into the same spot I am occupying.....I could go on and on but you get the idea
It's amazing what you see on the road between Ottawa and Oakville and in the Toronto area. (I work in Ottawa but live in Oakville)

Bill you should live here in Michigan where these people drive like they never had Driver Education. It burns me up having people ride my butt or intentionally cut me off because they need to get to their destination in a hurry. This really gets my blood pressure up. Yeah I know exactly what you mean. There is another habit that has started in the Tornot area a couple of yeaers ago. Seems people are completely incapable of keeping their cars in their lane when going arounds curves....to the point that 1/3 to 1/2the car is in te next lane.
I almost had a head-on a couple of years ago when a taxi cab in downtown Toronto cut across into my lane. He gave me the horn.
I have taken to giving people the horn when they cross into my lane. They look at me like I am from Mars. They have no idea what they are doing. Unbelieveable.

I replaced three sets on my 97 Z-28, all under warranty. Water gets in them and then they are toast. There is an splash guard under the right front of the car that accesses them. Two 10mm bolts and it opens right up. Another to remove the horn assembly and you're ready to replace. So far so good on the 02 SS...

My horn has just failed on my '02 SS, the low tone one went out. I need to make a trip to the dealer. I'll mention for them to replace the relay as well and then after the warranty expires, I'll get an aftermarket relay or install that set of 18 wheeler air horns I have lying around.

Well I have replaced the relay with other than GM and replaced the horns with aftermarkets ones. This was the 4th or 5th set.
I wound up driving through a rain storm several weeks ago and the horns are now toast AGAIN.
So I need to figure out how to either waterproof the are area where the horns are (lower rigiht), or find a set of waterproof horns. This is getting aggravating!!

I've had exactly the same problem. We went through a torrential downpour in a Camaro cruise in June, and the next day my horn sounded just like you described. I took it to the dealer a couple weeks later (was waiting to see if it would change back), and they said that "it works as designed". They would not replace it. It sounds ridiculous. When my husband and I lock our SS's at the same time, his sounds like a grizzly, and mine sounds like it's cub. I'm going to take it back, along with my husband's SS, and show them the difference. There is definitely something wrong. They just don't want to fix it.
