This topic is posted at LS1.com, and sounds like something that needs to be addressed. I know a few members here may have some "authorized access to some GM information" and I am hoping that some solution to this problem can be found, and this prevented from happining on other cars.

I know it sounds like a "one-off" situation, but there is potential here, as with any electromechanical device, to have an unintended consequence of failure that may not have been considered. I just want to keep our irreplaceable cars, lives and the public as safe as possible.

In several instances where someone thought the engine accelerated by itself, the floor mat was found to be bunched up and caught on the gas pedal. [Smile] I have ASR on my 2002 SS and on my old 1999 Z28 and never had a single concern like this. [Smile]

Yea, I know, and "I thought it was the brake", and "gee did I really drink that whole pitcher of Guinness?" stories, too... But I think, especially considering this apparently level-headed person's attempts at troubleshooting the problem, that there may be more to this that just a "defective nut behind the wheel".

Just wanted some genuine ideas, and possibly some additional diagnostic aids.

Thanks!

It happend to me. I have ASR and it was ON. So explain that one to me? I was at a dead stop making a left turn as the car went to wide open throttle and spun the car around. ASR ON! I ended up hitting a guy at the light. LUCKY for me I didnt go into the intersection. I took it to GM and they returned with "Its not our problem" and probably only because they couldnt get it to do it again. Also they gave me paperwork that said I was doing 119 ONE SECOND before impact and that the throttle was at 100% with the brakes ON. Now then, if I was doing 119, how in the HELL could I still be able to drive my car? They told me I was speeding. I never went above 15! Anyway, can you tell it still ticks me off? GM's investigators had the car for a week. I should have sued but went a different rought with my car.

And Derek's a Mod here.

the 119 may have been the VSS measuring TIRE speed on zero coefficient friction conditiona - (like when you see 120 when you slip on ice)...

Now I am really getting concerned, and interested.....

Derek, can you make this "sticky" at the top for a while??

And is it possible to scan and email me a copy of that "black box" report - feel free to obscure VIN and other personal data. I won't release it, I am just curious as to the format...

Regarding the spontaneous accelleration issue on TCS or ASR equipped cars..

I have been looking for more data and here's a problem.

Say you LS1 Edit (or ANY REPROGRAMMER OR PROGRAM NOT AUTHORIZED BY GM) your car and then sell it, and don't tell the new owner.

Then their car goes haywire. Who's liable?

******

I get that impression from some studying of available info and data that there may be unintended consequences from unauthorized reflashing here....

Not to start a flame war or a paranoia, but I think we all need to re-evaluate this reprogramming thing - or at least put it on hold till we have a better idea what's going on in this case.

I have nothing specific, nor any facts, but there is indications to lead me to think that there is something failing "beyond OEM" here.

Additioally, I need to consider HARDWARE mods, too. Something like a mod causing EFI, a mod causing RFI, something added that is affecting the class II datastream, or, yes, unauthorized reflashing of ECM/BCM, etc...

I am not considering one-shot diagnostic tests, but from off and (even more scary) on road pemanent changes to the OEM programs.

I am looking into this and would be happy to talk with anyone who may be involved in aftermarket programming or even GM Powertrain Engineers who may have additional insights...

Thanks!

Just for the record... I have an 02 SS, stock PCM, stock drivetrain other than a lid and smooth bellows, only electronics has been the addition of an aftermarket head unit and a few amps.

From day one, I've never experienced this problem yet.

To those who are having issues... what mods do you have?
