I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on how 4:10 gears are on the street with a 6 speed? I believe my car has factory 3:42's (97 SS) and i really think it would benefit from 4:10s, even on the highway.... how may RPMs will i turn at 70 mph in 5th or 6th gear? Any suggestions on where to get the gears/cost for parts/installation, etc... And also, what is involved in recalibrating the speedometer to read accurately after the gear swap? I should add that i do not drag race the car, I just think it would be a little more fun with a steeper gearset, and with 2 overdrives i think it would be very livable... Opinions anyone? Oh, and sorry for so many questions!

I really like the 4:10's. They really wake the car up and accelaration is much much better. I have also found that 6th gear actually becomes a useful gear on the highway. The engine is turning just just that much quicker that it can easily pull on hills,etc. You can also accelerate in 6th without having to go back to 5th all the time.
At 120 kph (74 mph) the tach says the engine is turning about 2100 rpm.
I used the SKP speed processor to recalibrate the speedometer, as this means no programming of the PCM, and it can be used to fine tune the accuracy of the speedo if you so desire. It applies a percentage correction to the input to the BCM. You should know that a GM Tech II will find the speed processor on a diagnostic check.
4:10s can be a little more noisy and this can vary by which ones you get. I have Richmonds.....noisy. Also, the driveshaft will be spinning about 20+% faster so if your pinion angle is off (i.e.: car is lowered) this will drive you nuts on the highway.
Bottom line would I put 4:10s in if I had it to do again. YES!!

I agree 100% with the above comments, 4.10's are great with the M6. Mine turns 2200 at 80mph. I used the SLP recalibration module and have keep it even though I now have a Predator and could use that.
