I'm sure this has been asked many times before and I know everyone has there own preference. However, I've had too many problems with the stock Goodyears on my 02 SS. I'm looking to replace them with a better tire. I just don't know which is the best. I'd like to hear some opinions about the different kinds out there including maybe run flats. But what I'm really looking for is help in doing my own research on this. All of my google searches are coming up with nothing.
Any help would be appreciated.

My car earns about 4k miles a year in good weather only so I'm looking for summer performance tires. I would like to have tires that have longer life than the Goodyear F1s. I've checked Tire Rack and it was a good place to do some basic research, but it doesn't tell me which one is better than the others. Consumer Reports wants money just to check and they may not have even tested performance tires. I'm looking to spend no more than about $175 a piece.

The 2 best tires I have used on my SS were the Goodridge KDW (noisy) and the Bridgestone RE 750 (new). The Bridgestones are right in your $ ballpark, they handle fantastic in rain or shine and have a 340 treadware rating as well as an AA traction rating. Posted by 30AnnySS (Member # 1985) on :
On a semi-related note... are the Comp T/A's that were factory equipment on my 97 SS avaialble anywhere besides through SLP? Call me goofy, but I'd like to have a set of the original brand and model tires that came on the car, but I cant find them anywhere but SLP's website... are they discontinued or what? SLP wants 300.00 EACH for them by the way.

Thanks for the response. The BFGs are the ones I was leaning towards. However, I did some more research and found that the best tire in this size and price were the Nitto 555. I'm getting them for about $180 a piece including mount, balance, valve stem and they are throwing in a free tire balance and rotation on my truck. I'm getting them installed either Thursday or Friday of this week. They have a 300+ tread wear rating and carreview.com had almost all good comments about them, unlike any other brand. I hope they are as good as everyone says they are.

Well the Nittos are on and I've put 300 miles on them in a week (much more than usual) and so far, I love them. The only problem is that I have too much traction. I can't chirp the tires into 2nd anymore.
