Taking the SS back to the dealer for a leak under the car (around the back seat area).Acording to the dealer the rear pinion seal was leaking.

Well 2 weeks later and less than 100 miles later its leaking worse than before [Frown] . Wish me luck as I will be Dammmmmmmme* if I'm missing BG because of this.

What dealer worked on the car? I don't want to take mine to that one. There is a possible nick in the pinion flange to cause the leak so soon or the tech did not torque the pinion nut to specs.

Don't know what the problem is with GM and pinion seals, but they have one. So far the one on my 02 Camaro isn't leaking but then it only has 4000 miles on it.

My local Chevy dealer replaced the one on my 96 Impala SS 4 times in the first 2 years that I had the car. Was still leaking, went to NAPA and got a seal, replaced it myself and it hasn't leak since.

In the last 160,000 kms I have lost count of the number of times that seal has been replaced on my car. The last one lasted 25,000 kms in a re-built axle assembly (we won't go into WHY there is a re-built axle on the car [Frown] ).

Just had a NAPA seal installed yesterday in preparation for the BG trip. Hopefully, I will have the same experience you have had with a NAPA seal. Can't be any worse than the GM seals.

Just talked to the dealer and he said that the problem is with the Loud Mouth that I had put on [Confused] .

According to the dealer it is routed to close to the rear differential and cooking the seal and they / GM wont repair it till it is re routed different.

Just had mine rebuilt and the rotors turned.
It wasnt leaking but it sounded like it was tumbling rocks.
It took them 2 tries to fix that now the E-brake is so loose it won't hold the car.

I love this crap.

Try Mark Chevrolet in Wayne Ed. Gordon is the worst dealership to do business with. I will never go there again. [Mad]

I would the only problem is that gordon "Replaced" the seal less than 2 weeks ago and I only had about 80 miles on it when I noticed the leak again.

The question you have to ask yourself is: " If they messed it up once, what is the probability that they will get it right the second, third or fourth time, and what are the chances of them doing even MORE harm??"

Having not answered this question correctly myself.....I can only suggest going to another dealer....NOW!!

You can take it back to another dealer even if Gordon did the bad work.Mark Chevrolet does do good work.

Taking the car to Mark should I mention what has happened at Gordon or not [Confused] . With computers cant anydealer pull up what has been done to a vehicle.

I would think so Ed. They should be hooked up to the same system but then again I could be wrong. Hope all goes well at Mark. [Wink] [Cool]

If it was done uder warranty, they would have access to it as part of the history of the car under its VIN.

If it was a dealer level repair, I doubt any other dealer would have access to that dealer's service system (but can not say for sure).

Ken looks like I will be taking the SS to Red Holman .Talked to the Pontiac side and they said they would do warranty work for me [Smile] .

Have been dealing with Holman for years (12 trucks in 10 yrs.) on the GMC side and I know a lot of people [Big Grin] .

I want to thank all for the help [Smile] .

I just took it back to the offending dealer and waited for the repair only for the fact of what they had on the paperwork about the Loud Mouth. Now that I have paperwork that a repair has been done their should be no question about the LM again and I can take it to a reputable dealer in the area.

what's the cost of the fix

Ed both my 2001,s are still bone dry and my daily driver of the 2 has over 51,000 miles on it now and has been down the strip a few times and still has no leaks, but I had a 98 SS that had the seal replaced 3 times the first year and the second time they replaced it they put the rear back together so tight it would not role back on a hill with the brakes off and guess what it burned everything out in the rear in a few hundred miles and they had to rebuild the rear at their cost. [Eek!]
