Replaced my front and rear brake pads today, and got brand new tires. The brake feels slightly mushy, but since my old pads had 57950 miles on them, it felt mushy then too. However, when I go into a hard stop from 35 mph +, i feel a shudder, and the "low trac" warning comes on.
I am assuming that whats happening is that the brakes are holding the rotors and the tires are just sliding on the road, but Im not sure if this is normal or not. Im also planning to add some brake fluid. is it normal to have some sliding with new tires and pads?

Sliding? With new tires at 35mph? That doesn't sound right.
Sounds like the ABS is engaging?

I also disconnected the battery before changing some headlights. I wonder if that has something to do with it.

The shuddering you are feeling is the ABS activating as evidenced by the low traction light coming on. If your brake pedal feels mushy try bleeding your brake lines, it sounds like you have some air in them.

The problem actually seems to have cleared up now. Brakes feel better, and I would be very surprised if there were air in the brake lines; my brake job was done without removing calipers. However, I may go out and bleed them just for fun in a few days, and see if that helps things.
