My horn will not work if I push the button on the steering wheel but honks if I activate the alarm. Anyone got any ideas I can check out?

Somewhere the horn contact circuit from the airbag to the horn relay is open.If I remember,I will look at the GM repair manual when I get home and see if I can find any connectors in the circuit for you to check the circuit continuity. [Smile]

Thanks for the reply, I have since found that you can move the wheel to just the right spot and the horn will honk. Has anyone had the steering wheel apart to expose the horn switch and contacts? Do the contacts get dirty and maybe need cleaned? I assume if you take off the airbag you can get to everything has anyone else had it apart?

Sounds like you need a new "clockspring" contact assembly for the steering column.

I second that opinion

Does the steering wheel have to be pulled off to replace it? A tilt wheel usually takes special tools to get it off.

Yes the steering wheel does have to come off but you do not need to take the tilt apart.Just maybe the lock plate under the steering wheel.
