The wife and I have received orders to a dream assignment in Vicenza, Italy. I do not want to ship the SS over there for many reasons, and I know someone will say that the Italians will go crazy over the car, but I'm no longer concerned with that.

We're going to store the car at a friends house in VA and would like to know everything that needs to be done if I'm going to shut it down for the duration of the assignment or have this close friend run it around the block a couple times a month.

Expert guidance needed the most, thanks.

How long is "a long time" ? It is not good to store any car for long periods of time. The rubbers seals in the driveline may get brittle and may wear out premature. The fuel system will get varnished. Even if stabil is used. The fumes are always evaporating from fuel. Valve springs that stay compressed for long periods may loose some of their strenght. I would definitly have some one start the car at least once or twice a month and if possible take it for a ride.Let it run until it reaches normal operating temperature before shutting it off. Run the a/c also. Cover the car and store indoors if possible. You may even want to use to desicant bags in the interior to help dry out any moisture. You could also plug the exhaust tips with a tennis ball to keep moisture and critters out. I would detail the car real good and make sure the paint is waxed.

If you do a search you will find lots of good info on storage. There are differing opinions on whether to start it occasionally or leave it alone, either way with the right precautions you will be OK.
