Perusing gmpartsdirect.com I stumbled upon this, an LS6 long-block engine with Camaro oil pan kit. Don't know if they're talking about late model or what, but I'm guessing so. Anyway, if you wanted to upgrade that tired 97 LT1 with an all-aluminum piece....

Camaro LS6?

Kinda pricey, but well, it's out there if you want to spend the bucks.

Guy here in Florida has an LS6 in his 2000 SS. Original motor got 'hydrolocked' and he was able to get the LS6 by paying a little extra over the LS1. They did have to do some PCM programming.

He even got his SS signed by Scott S "A Real LS6"
