Is the SLP Y-Pipe worth getting? Product information on it says one thing but some actual users say something else.
Some say their 1/4 mile runs are slower. Also, compared to the stock y-pipe, dyno results have shown there to be less horsepower and torque with the SLP Y-Pipe. Could that be due to the car's computer somehow?
Everyone agrees that the SLP Y-Pipe makes the exhaust sound deeper. We all like that but nobody wants to lose horsepower and torque in return.
So, is some power actually being lost? There's less restriction but performance results make me wonder. The test results may not reflect all cars with the SLP Y-Pipe but those where the results. I'm on the fence with this mod. Does anyone have any first hand experience with this? I'm very curious!

Not that this will answer any of your horsepower questions, but to offer my .02 cents... If you were to compare the internal cross-sectional 'area' of the stock (flattened) Y-pipe, ...it would probably be very close to that of the SLP pipe. For that reason alone I'm not sure there would be much difference. I'm sure there are arguments on both sides of this, but over "repeated tests", would one "consistently" show more horse power than the other? (Of course, ...all other things being equal) ...I'm sure there are still debates on this. Anyway, ...What is it that YOU want? If (like me) you simple don't like the idea of the "flattened" pipe AND would like a little throatier sound, ...go for the SLP pipe. I did, and I'm happy with it. (I'm running a stock 345hp D-D system) On the other hand if you are concerned with horsepower gain, ...I'll leave that debate for others to try and help with...

I didn't really notice any difference with mine. Maybe a slight tone difference with the loudmouth but not that the normal person could tell. I got it brand new for $75 from someone. Performance difference I'd say no...only thing about it now is that since I've put the hypercoils springs and bilstein shocks on the car it scrapes going up into my garage just my .02

I recall a post on the SLP board that showed about a 7hp and 7lbft increase on the dyno. I'm going to be replacing mine though with a set of LT headers and new y-pipe. If you are going to do headers, you may want to wait.

If there's ANY chance you'll be getting headers in the future, I wouldn't bother. As for power...it's pretty much a wash. Check out the 4/13/02 results here. The SLP y-pipe was a loss of some HP and some TQ but not enough for me to want to get rid of it.

Thanks for all the information you guys. Kevin, to answer your question "what do you want?", a y-pipe that deepens the sound and increases overall power output. I am not that concerned about the y-pipe's appearance. I do not plan on getting headers in the future. Thanks OBSSD for the link to "Camaro SS Stats". Excellent food for thought. Again, thanks to all of you for your comments.

Not a problem...it'd be a waste not to share the results. Maybe combined with the CME, the y-pipe would provide the results you're looking for. Good luck with your decision.

The main thing with adding a y-pipe or any other mod each car reacts a little different. I have seen some gain from maf change and some lose. Each mod needs other mods to make them really pay off. When you make a change of any kind you need to be tuned for it to get the most out. My SS with the duel-duel exaust and the y-pipe and SLP lid and stock other than that dynoed 330 RWHP and 345 RWTQ average now with other mods and head and cam and good tuning it is at 410 average RWHP but with each mod tuning was the key.
