At around 2500 rpm I hear this Tinny, Metallic, Vibrating Like Sound that lasts momentarily during acceleration. The sound began after adding Whisper MAF ends 600 miles ago. I did not remove the center post from the MAF electronics. (The car also has a Whisper Lid and K&N filter. Which was added before the MAF ends).

Other than the strange sound the car runs fine. I do not have access to an AutoTap. Any advice is appreciated.

Classic pinging. The MAF ends likely caused a lean condition. Get your hands on an ATap and check O2's at WOT on B1S1 and B2S1 O2 sensors. Good numbers are ~850 mv. You're probably also getting a bunch of knock retard (3+ deg).

The 99 & up cars tend to ping with only MAF ends.

Personally, I would take them back off and run stock MAF ends until you get at least headers, but that's probably being conservative. I would bet with the knock retard you're getting, you probably didn't gain any performance at all.

Mine quit pinging after a cam install. The knock retard went away, too.

Scott, Thanks for the information. It appears my MAF end purchase was a waste of $$

Is the AutoTap the only way to get the necessary readings? My only option is to try and rent one.

I wouldn't say that you wasted your money. MAF ends are a good mod, but maybe not just yet.

If you don't think you'll ever upgrade cam and/or exhaust, then sell 'em. Otherwise, hang on to them, keep reading posts, and you might find a way to get them to do you some good.

As far as getting data.....there are other diagnostic tools around (Snap-On for one), but AutoTap is the cheapest option I know of, that is, if you have access to a laptop. It's older (DOS-based) software, sort of clunky to use, and the data must be transported to Excel or some other package if you want graphs, charts, or other data crunching options.....but.... it works!

Try installing a SLP Air Temp Module ..(if you don't allready have one)(if you do have it try removing it) I had the same problem with just ends and air lid.... after i did the HPP3 tunning it returned .. the fix for that was to remove the SLP Air Temp Module.

Also did you reset the PCM after the MAF end install ?

SS3816 thanks for your reply.

I do not have a SLP Air Temp Module. Nor did I reset the PCM after the MAF end install.

Man I don't even know what a PCM is or where it is. I am not familiar with the SLP Air Temp Module either.

I had the same problem on my Hawk. I took them off right away because I heard the detonation could cause damage

I emailed TByrne Motorsports. Tom was very helpful. Here is his suggestion: I suggest putting the stock MAF ends back in to see if this changes anything. If it does reinstall the aftermarket ends one more time to see
if this brings the problem back.

So I will be under the hood Friday afternoon.
