Riding in to work this AM on the radio was this deal about the letters being addressed to Santa and Postal Workers helping to supply some of the needs for those not so fortunate as us.
I understand that they are looking for private citizens to help out as well. I'm not talking about, "Hey Santa, I need a new bike." More like, "Dear Santa, my mom and dad are out of work, I could use some gloves." Many of the letters have return addresses so something can be done.
Maybe we could start an SSOA tradition. Doesn't matter where you live, just go down to the post office and ask. You don't even have to tell anyone you did it. (I won't tell that I'm going to do it cause it will ruin my reputation.)

That's nice. We do something like that in work. We have names that are posted in the cafeteria from needy families in the area. We all take the names and bring in gifts that are things like jackets, gloves, gift certificates etc. We don't put our names on them, just pick them off the wall, get the gifts and then just bring them in and bring them to local shelters. It is just a small thing that we can do for local folks that need help. We also do food banks and volunteer time. We are so lucky to have we we do, it is the very least that we can do to give something back to our local communities.

Since I work in Human Services, it has been a tradition to take families in need "under our wings" for the holidays.
I work with seniors and last year we helped 10 local seniors with little family support have a good holiday.

Our local Camaro Club helps out a family with several hundred $ in necessities, gifts, groceries and gift certificates. We also participate in local food drives throughout the year. Any $$ earned at our local cruise-in and our 50/50 pot at monthly meetings goes into our charity fund.
Steve and I always pull cards from the Giving Tree at Washington County, Oregon for gift buying for the Foster Children in the system.
The Post Office Santa stuff is a great idea....I'll mention it to our Club and see if we can get something going.
