A new one at the dealer is $909!! How do I get a new one without paying out the @ss and getting a peice of crap windsheild? Will insurance cover it? I don't want my insurance to go up. Thanks for the help.

Call your insurance company and check on your deductible. Find out if they can provide you with a list of reputable windshield shops (maybe even the dealer if it's a good one).
Call a reputable windshield replacement place, but not one of those cheesy ones that advertise a free windshield plus more. (one near us gives a free windshield and 24 dinners at a local fancy restaurant). It only results in increased premiums when these guys make inflated insurance claims.
I had my windshield cracked coming back from Tulsa in July. My deductible for a new windshield was $200...insurance company paid the rest. Call your insurance company to see how to proceed. Mine recommended a shop that would come to my work and install the windshield.

In my old 2000 WS6 I payed $450 for a new windshield after it cracked. They place that put it in did a great job, just shop around, you can find a lot better price than $900.

In my MR2 the winshield cracked and the insurance company waived the deductable and paid for the whole thing.

I cracked my windsheild earlier this year and my insurance covered it! Only a $120.00 deductable!!
BTW it was an OEM PPG peice of glass and the replaced the vinyl trim around the window! Granted the total cost was $1400.00 !!!!!!!

Aaargh!!! That reminds me.... I caught a rock today and now have a little chip righ smack dab in the middle of the windshield. Has anyone had one of these puppies fixed without replacement??? Did it look distorted?? What a time to catch a rock, sheesh!

Move to florida! here it is a non deductible item as it is deemed necessary to drive safely! all others windows are subject but windshields are covered.

I have a friend that has a convertible and the windshield replacement is very expensive because of the structural stuff. That may be why you have such a high quote. Otherwise the dealer is trying to get to you.
Check with your insurance co and you will only be out the deductible in most cases.

That is definitly why we have insurance. If it's cracked, just get it done. Should be 'no bag thang'. 'course my small rock chips match what I've got in the paint, on the nose especially.

Very important to have it replaced immediately. The windshield is a part of the total integrity of the safety of your vehicle. If it is cracked then it's lost a lot of it's strength and now if a rock hits it, it could go right through with dire consequences to the occuppants.
As for Insurance, it's a Comprehensive claim and on it's own should not affect your rates.
Stick with the major windshield chains like Teri said. There is a lot of "cheaper" glass on the market and in some cases it is also not as strong as OEM as they use thinner glass. I've seen bulletins on this subject in the past. Also, a shop that's been in business a long time is a good idea. What happens if it starts leaking in a few months?

I never thought about the srtuctural part of being threatened now. I have no concern about getting a new one, I know the insurance will cover it. I just have to get it done is all. Just now I will probably hurry a little more to get it done. It's a t-tops not convertible and that price was just me going to the parts counter and asking how much the windsheild alone is. Thanks for ya'll's help.

I've had several rock chips repaired - though not on the SS (yet).
There are a lot of factors that go into determining the final results - but the ones I've had done have always come out looking great. You almost had to know where to look to find them.
The rule of thumb is that if you can cover the damaged area with a quarter - then you can get a successful repair. Get it done ASAP in order to help keep cracks from spreading further out into the windshield.
I've always gone to an auto glass company to have it done.
