I have been a member of SSOA for a year now and have quietly sat by and said nothing about the missing SSOA Letters of Authenticity we were all promised as part of our membership packets. I was navigating the SLP website this evening and I found, much to my surprise, an SLP commerorative portfolio available to SS owners for $59.00, which includes the following -

This all-new Commemorative Portfolio is designed to hold your GM owners manual and the supplemental SLP owner's manual. Includes an SLP engraved pen, notepad, tire tread depth gauge, a customized "Certificate of Authenticity" and "Vehicle Specifications Card". (The customized package will be shipped by SLP to the customer after the customer completes and returns an information form included in the vehicle's supplemental SLP owner's manual.)

Now my question is this, if SLP can offer this comemorative "Letter of Authenticity" why haven't we received ours yet? I know this is done on a volunteer basis, and I do appreciate all the hard work that this staff has put in, but a year already, come on, how many members do we have? And honestly, my SSOA membership for $40.00 has given me no more than 4 stickers that I can put on my car and a discount at SLP that only lasted a few months that isn't any good anymore. The website isn't even complete yet. About the only benefit that I have seen from this Association is this Message Board, which costs nothing to participate in.

Can someone please shed some light on this for me?

Anyone have any ideas on things to do with the club?? I am sure that the directors would be extremely happy to hear suggestions!! If we can get a few ideas, we can then make some committees to implement them or something like that. There are some very creative people around here. I am creativity challenged, but would be happy to help organize and implement an idea. It's all what we make it not just 5 or 6 directors.

It was my understanding that this is an option on the 2001 SS Camaros. If this is correct, then all previous model years would not have this Letter of Authenticity. The SSOA was formed prior to the introduction of such a Letter by SLP and thought it would be neat to develop.
This idea sounded great but turned out to be a larger task than originally believed. Please understand that the SSOA is doing all that they can to get these items to the members.
And, I agree with Dan....this club will only be as good as its members make it. I would like to try to get some type of gathering together in my area (Oklahoma). I am really busy at work right now so I haven't been able to work on it.

As soon as the last batch of member information is verified by SLP, I'll update the database, print the letters and send them to SLP for signature. Once I have the letters back, I'll compile the second member packet and send them out just as fast as I can.
The letters are our first priority.
Once they are out, we'll be working down our "to do" list.
Member participation is key and we're all ears to hear your ideas about what you'd like to see or do as a group.

That's a great idea. I'd love to go if I lived closer to the route, but our travel this year will be limited to just a couple events.

Would you be interested in Chairing a committee for that event?

It would need someone on each end, and along the way, who will organize and follow up with details regarding dates, meeting time, meeting locations along the route, etc. and be "in charge" of it.

Let's find out who in the SSOA is planning on going and see what develops out of that group.

My personal situation is in a state of "flux" right now so I am unable to commit to anything. I still don't know if I will be able to go or not, I won't know until right before the event.

Well, I for one am not going to bust on SSOA about some letter. DOing ANYTHING on a volunteer basis is VERY TOUGH.

I am still not understanding WHY (someone please explain it to me.) why this LOA are so damn important??

Yeah I paid the dues for SSOA. ANd yeah I have the sticker in my back window (Thanks YIKESS!! for the idea).

But its more then that. I have met Teri, and Art. Still haven't met Lou. But I will one day soon. As things come together you find out how much fun it is to be a PART of the SSOA. These are some good people trying to get this done.

I say be patient for a little while longer. I am sure they get frustrated too. After all they all have SS"s too and I am sure THEY want the LOA as well. right?

Just to set the record straight, I am not "Busting" on anyone. I am very appreciative for all the hard work and efforts that these people have put in on a volunteer basis, as I mentioned in my first post. My question was merely why can SLP offer this now, and the SSOA, who decided to do this a year ago, not have it put together yet? It's not that the LOA's are going to make or break people, it's the fact that as part of the membership, we were promised a LOA. It's been 1 year since I signed up and still no LOA, and this discussion has been going on for how long now, at least 9 months, that I can remember people asking about these. I don't need an LOA to tell me that I own an SS, all I have to do is look in my driveway, but the fact remains that I paid for one as part of my SSOA membership.

Again, staff, thank you for your hard work. I know volunteer undertakings are a pain in the a$$. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

I think the answer was that SLP is only offering for 2001. The SSOA has to verify all years and they need SLP help for that. I won't go over all the past posts but I believe that a big part of the hold up was SLP verifying the information and they had computer problems.

Very interesting points being made here.

The 2001 kit SLP is doing is actually based on our suggestion of a LOA.

They are capturing and holding that information specific to the new vehicles, it also states that you must "fill in" certain aspects... This is basically the same info the SSOA will have for you very soon {per Teri's comments}

Lastly, if the SSOA is to grow, Member participation is a utmost priority and a deciding factor in my retirement. A functional plan for Regional Representative was given to the membership, no one acted on it...

Get involved, it's your Association.
