I'd like to get everyone's opinion on what would be the best convertible for summertime, meeting the following criteria:I was kicking this around in my head the other day: if I was living down at the Jersey shore, what convertible would I want to have in order to cruise around town with a bunch of friends. I'm interested in everyone's answers.

  • Able to [b]comfortably seat 4 or more people. (This automatically eliminates the current f-body and all raodsters.)
  • Powerful engine.
  • Decent radio.
  • Old or new model.
  • Great car to cruise in, whether on the highway, or down the strip. (By strip, I mean the main street of a town or beach area.)
  • Great car to be seen in.

...my vote would be for a 68-72 GTO, 442, Chevelle or Skylark convertible. Plenty of power, plenty of room, and lot's of class...

I was thinking along those lines too Jimbo...but my vote would be for a 65 GTO. My dad's favorite of all his cars (and mine too)…I could kill him for selling it!

My friend Tim, whom a bunch of you have met, has a 48 Ford convertible put away as a future project car ... it will be motivated by 454 ci of Big Block Chevy and, if he can work it out, be backed by a 6 speed manual transmission.

Based on his past and current projects (check out "project dirty bird" in my Photopoint album) that will be the ultimate cruising ragtop.

p.s. The convertible bug bit me (hard) when Tim and I cruised down to Minneapolis for "Back to the Fifties" in a ragtop 54 Olds Super 88.

Just happen to have, in stock, and ready for immediate sale:

1965 Buick Wildcat Custom Convertible, 335HP 401 CID, auto, green, lots of new stuff. Won a second place at 1995 Buick national convention. Currently partially apart to repaint exterior. Lost interest when SS arrived.

1966 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible. 425 CID, mechanical restoration started (exhaust, brakes, top, interior, radio, tires) needs lots of rust repair.

Need to get rid of both of these. Road racing and SS driving taking over.

I knew there was something I liked about you grump , a 65 wildcat convert...nice..I haven't heard the wildcat reference since my 64 riviera with a wildcat 455 on the aircleaner!, and a 66 Olds 88, I forgot about those!

It's tough not having the time to all the things.....
