What is the usual clutch life for these cars, if they're just being street driven and not track driven?
My clutch pedal travel at the top seems to change...also I seem to have a squeak in the pedal which probably indicates a need for lubrication.
Any clutch tips?

At Bragg-Smith the instructors told us if we take good care of our clutches, they should last 150K. It is all in how you drive! If you ride the clutch at a stop sign, slip it on hard launches, etc., well, it is logical that it won't last. Hope that helps.

I don't ride it...I don't downshift...I select neutral and plan stops ahead of time...and Mike told me when I first got it that you should not feather it in first. But the travel seems to move around...near the top and then further down...and there is definitely a squeak in the pedal...it's due for service this week so I'll get the mechs to check the pedal...BTW how far can you trust them?

mechanics - like your doctor - you trust them with your life.

I've always gone to someone I trust for mechanical, I pay top buck, but I get first class work - and no come backs - all mechanics hate come backs!!

Well, a good technician is hard to find (and vice versa). I got lucky. I married one!

We just bought our own shop last year. I can't tell you how nice it is to not have to take our car to a dealership!

I don't trust the mechanics too much but I have yet to find a good one besides my uncle and he is never home so I have to put up with the dealers.

Andy- I heard that C&M chevrolet off of balboa does very good work.

The one service check on the car so far was at C&M...but I always have the feeling, wherever I go that I should be standing right behind them watching how they're doing things.
I did print off the agreement which turned up here not too long ago that someone got the Dealer to sign before they worked on the car. I think the story was that a friend had seen his SS many miles away from the dealership on a supposed "roadcheck"!
I'm not sure the dealer in this case would be willing to sign such an agreement, but it might be worth a try.

I printed off a copy of the agreement, but I don't remember who posted it...I think it was one of the regular contributors though...maybe they'll chime in!

One of the things it could be is your clutch cylinder. In my opinion the design for the padal linkage is a POS. I started having trouble with the clutch and found out that it was the pedal assy and not the clutch. The problem is that the clutch linkage is two peices.

The slave cylinder rod comes through the firewall into the car. Then there is another rod that is attached to the pedal. The pedal rod slides over the slave cyllinder rod to form the linkage. The problem is with the way they fasten the rods. They slide the pedal rod over the slave rod and then they use a press (pressure fit) to clamp it in place. Well, when the press-fit starts to let go it lets the clutch start in engage or dis-engage at different points of pedal travel making you think that somethings wrong somewhere in the clutch assy. Anyway my mechanic found this right away and said that he could tack weld the rods but not under the dashboard (to dangerous to do it in the car). So it has to be out of the car, and sense it has to be taken out, you might as well get a whole new assy ($96.00 from Chevy). So, it may not be the problem, but it might be worth your time to check it out. It's easy to see, just get under the dash grab the clutch pedal and see it there's any movement between the two rods. It there is you'll know what the problem is.

What you're saying aboutnthe pedal assembly sounds very much like what I'm experiencing! If I pump it a couple of times in the neutral gate, it works fine and seems to come back to what I would think is the normal position. But it will change again at times...
If I leave it, would it cause a problem? Does it actually affect clutch operation adversely? Will it hurt my clutch is what I'm trying to say!

I'll try and illustrate to try give you a visual. The rod attached to the clutch pedal goes over the rod from the slave cylinder. The hole in the clutch pedal rod is drilled deep.However when they slip it over the cylinder rod it is not bottomed out against the cylinder rod when they press clamp it. So, what happens when the press fit loosens up is now the clutch pedal rod travels down further until it bottoms out against the slave cylinder rod. At that point it will start to push the clutch in. What all this means is that; a)you're clutch engagement point is much farther down, b)it can feel like the clutch is slipping, and yes it will cause the clutch to wear, c)it can cause hard shifting d)since the pedal can return to different positions when you release it you can really get you confused. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the added info...very helpful...now, if I take it to the GM service dept, are they going to know what to do about it, or if it seems to be ailing...??I'm wondering if I could get hold of one of the M6 folks around here and compare notes...
