I got my BMR STB this week and when I went to install it I noticed that ther are re-enforcing plates welded on the tower that extend into the area where the brace end plates would sit, meaning that the brace will not have a flat surface to sit on. I shimmed the brace up with washers but I would guess that flat shim plates would give the brace a better platform to sit on.

Anyone else run into this and how did you solve it?

The Hotchkis STB ships with shim plates so that the brace will lay flush. You might be able to talk Hotchkis into selling you two of these...they have pretty responsive online customer service.

I did not have a problem with the BMR on mine.

It went on easy and fit well.

Hawk, were the plates there on yours, it doesn't sound (or look like it)?

DaddySS,

My BMR STB went on without problem. Not sure of these 'plates' you are talking about. Please post a pic or two. Thanks...

What is the unit that is just above your battery in the pic? Looks like cables are going to the firewall from it... Is it the ASR unit?

Hawkeye, check your Whisper lid. The Clip on the left came off.

Yep - I had to fix that clip. That one always popped off till I changed it a bit. Now it's fine.

I don't know what plates are on the new BMR STBs I didn't have any plates.

The Cables are from the ASR. You can see how they go around the brace in the first photo.

There are plates, one on each shock tower - in your second picture, the plate on the right with the hole in it - that extend about 1/2 inch into the area where the brace sits. So the end plates of the brace are resting partly on those additional reinforcing plates and partly on the other plate you see in the first picture (which extends just beyond the endplate of the STB).

I don't know if this makes it any easier to understand, but the bottom line is the end plate is not sitting flat, it rests partly on one of the reinforcing plates and partly on the other.

I think I follow you. In my own opinion I would not install unless it is a nice flat fit.

We have seen many installed here and yours is the first one I've heard that doesn't fit
properly. There is a lot of load at that point and I'd want a nice flat fit.

I wonder what has changed there. Maybe ask Jeff Y.
