Can I replace the front rotors ONLY with aftermarket? On an average, who makes a good rotor and about how much will I spend for pads and rotors?

GTRotors are a nice option! They aren't real expensive.. and they have LT1 and LS1 kits available.. I have swapped them on my 98 SS and my 2000 SS now. I love them. I had them on both front and back on my 98.. I only have them on the front of my 2000.. only because I haven't had time to complete the rear swap.. and its been about 6000 miles now... many people only do the front to save money.. so its definately possible.

We also have GT Rotors.......we're very pleased with them. (I like the whirrrrrrr sound they make.)
No warpage like the stock ones.

Car Chick... I told the guy at GT that I wanted some that made that "whirrrrr" sound. He checked stock and could only find the ones with the "sirrrrr" sound. Will they work?
Thanks, OG

OG, I had a company called carbotech cryogenically treat a set of stock front rotors for me. They have been great. I also got a set of Panther pads from them that I se only at the track. They are experienced guys and will take as much time as you need to explain things on the phone to you. I was very happy with them. They are loder folks too, and they love to just BS on the phone. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole thing with them and my front rotors have had no problems since I replaced the originals with these. There are many discussions about brakes. Like everything else, you have to know what you want out of them before you decide. I was told that slotted or cross drilled can be a problem on road courses at times, depending on the pads you use. They could actually do the grated cheese effect. Let me know if you want a contact number.
I know a few people have gone with the GTR and the GN Police Pursuit pads as well and that has worked out great. Good luck!

Do these rotors really make a distictive sound? If so why? Thanks. Posted by Mark IXZD 150 (Member # 235) on :
Take a look at these KVRs. I just put them on. Still breaking them in.

Those KVS look good!! Considering for myself!! and price does not seem to bad! Posted by mhayman (Member # 146) on :
just the other day on LS1.com someone said that one manufacturer makes ALL the rotors for the late model f-bodies. that is, if you get stock GM rotors or spend money on aftermarket ones, you are getting the same thing. supposedly the aftermarket ones even have GM stamped on them.
I would like to know if this is really true. I am considering aftermarkets myself and there are a few to choose from (KVR, Powerslot, GT rotors) but if they are all the same rotor, just treated differently with cross drilling/slotting/etc then I don't see much point in changing.
It doesn't seem like this could be true but if anyone has any insight, please share. Fact, fiction, another dillusional member of LS1.com????
thanks

In the case of the KVRs, that's true for the rear rotors only. The fronts are not GM.

Where are the KVR's available?

I have no idea what the heck I was thinking. I even looked at those characters on the keyboard to see if I offset by one or something but that's not it. I am losing it. I need some good weather!! DOH
Hey, what's with my 4 star rating!! Someone doesn't like me!
