Actually I like it in both places.

Now if you were going to SLP day I could sit in the car and check it out for myself. But noooooooooooo, you have to go to a family thing. Who is more important? Your SS buds or family? hahaahaha

I went with mine in the defrost pod. A little more conspicuous, but seems to be more effective here.

Aren't you just supposed to wait for the rev limiter to kick in?

(I AM kidding here.......)

Do your shift lights activate at a certain RPM and if so, is it adjustable... I am considering getting one... How much do they cost and where can I get one...

Thanks!

Hey John,

The light is Matt Harlan's shift light. He designed and manufactures the lights. You can get them in red LEDs, yellow or green (Mine's red). The cost is $35 for the light, and $5 priority mail shipping. The light can be programmed and adjusted (by you) in 100 RPM increments to come on from 500 RPM all the way to 14,000 RPM. I have mine set to 5700. Works super well, and looks like OEM when driving...until it comes on, and then there's no question that it's time to shift!! You can keep the pedal buried and your eyes on the road, instead of watching the tach for the ideal shift point. The website is:

Hope this helps.

Actually, the Harlan shift light is available in a couple of more colors. Orange is available at no extra charge. Blue is available at an extra charge (I don't remember how much, though). I have an orange Harlan shift light in my hugger orange SS.

I ordered mine from Summit Racing. It ran me like 54.99 for the light and 15.00 bucks for the pills. There are pills you can put in it and the light comes on for whatever pill you put in. Right now I have 5,800 rpm. It takes about 1/2 hour to install.

I also got the Harlan. I had mine in the defroster vent as well then switched to the
A/C vent. I did not want to block the defroster vent. Although - I don't usually
need the defroster on.

Simple install with install university instructions. Takes about 1/2 hour. No special tools.

I chose the defrost pod for the opposite reason. I have no use for the defroster, and it didn't require anything to mount it; the pod holds the light in place. Also, I couldn't afford to give up an A/C vent, or have airflow disturbed by an object in the vent. It gets to be well over 100º in my car some days, and I'd cook alive without full blast A/C...
