This is the first time I have posted since I joined, been real busy.
I have a question, the paint on my hood down right sucks bad .. if I get a chip, if takes it all the way down everytime. Is there anything I can do about this, or am I just screwed

Hi there, and welcome. I also have a black 2000 as you can see below. I have 17,000M on Black Beauty and so far...knock on wood... no chips in the hood...I have had a windshield chip which I had fixed without changing the glass, but no stones into the hood...I'll be interested in what others say. My theory is that the more expensive the vehicle, in most cases, the better the paint! That's just an opinion though and I may be totally wrong...

Some people with paint problems have gone to their dealer and have had parts re-painted under warranty. It's most likely on a case by case basis, so you could just give it a try. If there is a paint defect, your dealer should be able to take care of it.

I have 30K on my black SS and about 4 paint chips. They are inevitable, at least here in the Northeast.

I have about 22k miles on my 2000 SS. I got my first chip in the hood with about 3k miles. It has been downhill since then. I have numerous chips on the hood but very few on the front fascia. It has been said before that the curing process at SLP is not very good. It seems that the paint on the SS hoods and SS spoilers is very soft. You might be able to get the dealer to help you out. It just depends on the repoire you have with your dealer. I just decided that I am going to drive mine like it is until I get another car. Then I will paint it. SLP doesn't respond much to the paint claims as they have heard it many times. Anyway, good luck! Posted by poSSum (Member # 119) on :
I have a couple of chips on mine as well ... comes from driving the car ... and the stuff that gets kicked up on our roads.
My opinion on why we see it on the hoods is that the composite hood is softer than steel, but not flexible like the front fascia, plus it has a far nicer paint finish than the fascia and fenders.
