Hi, I hear some rumor about Alaska Commerical Fisherman where big buck can be made if working as a fisherman for the summertime. I thought I would check in with some of you and see if this is an hoax or a fact?
If it is a fact, can I take it further by Email? Maybe some of you who are aware of it can help me out? I appreciate any information I can get! Thank in advance!
Ken

Being a resident of the largest state in the union I can say that yes, commercial fishing CAN pay good ( A friend of mine pulled almost 27G's in 2 weeks one year). The seasons are short and the work is dangerous, in fact it is the most dangerous profession in North America. I also believe you now need a permit from the state to work on the FV's, but I may be wrong. The city of Homer is a good place to look as is Dutch Harbor. But remember Captains usually look for experienced hands first. Any more questions???

Check your mail, I sent you the ADF&G Commercial Fisheries page, that will answer all your questions. Hope that helped.

Joe,
I got ur Email and I appreciate all the info u gave.
A friend of mine made $23K cash in 3 months and he said that it was hell. He said that captain are always looking for new fishermen, experienced or inexperienced, because it is known that fishermen quit because he can't handle the job and got enough he needed before he quit.
I personally am not 100% sure about taking this job on because I am not sure if I can end up with a job. I wouldnt mind going to Alaska for hell of it but I would want to end up with a job, at least.
