If I get a spring kit that drops the car about 1.5" or so, can I still drive up Rhino ramps? The car doesn't have the Bilstein suspension either. Also, is this something I can do myself without ever have done before?
Thanks.

Don't know about the ramps.

I just had the complete Bilstein package professionally installed. I stayed to watch (and help) through the entire process. I was initially going to do it with a hobbyist friend.

I am very happy that I did not go that route.

The rear is doable ... the front requires spring compressors and some know how.

hey Art

How much did that cost you? I have been thinking of doing the same thing for a while. I wanted to order the Bilstein with my car but as you know, they didn't offer it on convertibles until 2001.

I keep pondering how much it will set me back to buy the setup from SLP and have it installed.

I lowered my car with eibach lower springs. I never was able to use ramps with my car when I had the stock springs in it. If you need to go under your car I would use a jack. You might scratch up the bottom with it lower. Just my 2 cents.

Don't risk the clearance with ramps.
Use a jack AND jack stands. Make sure you use the proper jacking points!

Mark,

I think I paid $995 US plus shipping for the package from SLP Engineering (not Performance Parts) and it is complete, right down to reinforced front sway bar mounts.

It cost me $600 CD (about $400 US) to have the suspension and BMR weld-in Sub-frame connectors installed and a wheel alignment done.

I really like it ... feels tighter and flatter. I know JeffY will say it's within GM stock spec, but the front came down 5/8" and the back came down 1".

Oops!! I had the height change reversed. It's corrected now.

Nice...thanks Art.

Do you have any pics of those SFC's by any chance? I don't see any in your photopoint album.

Art, nice job on the updated photos. Makes me kinda feel like I was there with you.

Glad you let the pros do it. SLP did mine at their shop in Troy.(4:10's and SFCs)

The whole reason that I still want to be able to use my ramps, is because I have a hard enough time being able to jack up the car now. What I did for my SFC install was buy two sets of ramps, cut the stop lip off that back pair, put them under all four tires & just drove up. It worked really well. I did the same thing when I did my brakes & it made jacking the car high enough for the jack stands so much easier. I love the look of these cars slightly lowered, but I'm concerned about what trouble I'll run into.
Thanks.

Shay - Sorry for invading your topic! I wouldn't think you would have any problems with Rhino Ramps. I have yet to hear of someone who couldn't get their car up on them. And since your car doesn't have the Bilstein, it could probably stand to be lowered an inch or so. For spring installs - unless you have the right tools and have done this before, I'd let the pros do it.

Art - nice job with the pics (yet again!)....thanks!!

No problem Mark. I guess if worse came to worse I could just take 1" off of the bottom of each ramp, but man that would be a PITA!

Get two pieces of 2 x 8 wood about 2 feet long each. Drive onto the wood then onto the ramps.

Don't put the ramps on the wood.
