I was cleaning the rims the other day and I noticed that the centre hub part and the outside edge of the rotors are painted a glossy grey colour. Has GM always done this? I have never seen this before.

Me neither. That would be nice though. Easier to keep clean.

Yea, I noticed mine were gray too.

By the way, saw a cool tip on dream car garage - to keep your rotors nice, give them a quick cleaning with a steel brush or whatever, then take some high temp paint, spray it on steel wool and then work that into the surfaces where the pads don't touch - the outer edge, center hub, etc., and the surfaces will stay rust free.

I painted my Rotors when I installed my
chrome ZR1's because even though there was just a little bit of rust on the edges of the
rotors it stood out like a sore thumb when the nice shiny wheels were installed. Eventually the grey paint on the stock rotors will allow rust to appear, I just used a 3M paint stripper on a drill and cleaned up the rotors and then squirted the rotors with some paint, they turned out great. I am glad to see I am not the only freak who has thought of doing this.
